Can someone briefly describe this election? So the Labor party is basically like the Democrats of America (progressive)? And how are there so many conservatives. I thought the UK was fairly progressive?

So is this a choosing the best of two evils case?

I asked someone from UK who they were voting for and they said they're all the same (the ones at the top of the polls), why bother?

Yes and no. The difference is, imo, where the austerity cuts fall and the ideology the party has.

I didn't think we'd have a hung parliament considering the press the last one got, but we pretty much are going to have one. I'm still not even sure who I'm going to vote for.

The seats they'll get in Parliament is more the issue. They're going to get next to none, which is good. They can come in whichever position in the polls. The Parliamentary seats they gain = power.

It is kinda like that, but the Conservatives aren't as far right as US Republicans (in terms of issues like abortion, gay marriage etc) The difference between the parties is mostly to do with the economy

Yeah, everyone knows they're just xenophobic scaremongers. No one will take them seriously, especially on the serious issue of trying to re-establish the economy.

In the UK, the main parties know that granting people rights will win them votes long term (i.e. equal marriage from the Conservatives). There was contention on it, but the politics on the whole are quite forward thinking/moving.

UK is ALMOST entirely over them, Northern Ireland is their Bible Belt

I'm liberal, and I would never vote for a Republican here in America. That being said, there is something about David Cameron that I like and respect.

If I were a Brit, I'd be split between the Conservatives and Labour. Milliband doesn't inspire the same level of confidence that Cameron does, though.

SNP offered to form a coalition with Labour to stop Conservative getting into power, which Labour has said they would reject.

The polls show it's pretty much neck and neck between Labour and Conservative.

Labour will have to get the SNP to agree to a confidence and supply agreement, where they basically vote to have Labour in power. They will also need to get the Lib Dems to work with them too, if they want to secure a majority.

But I don't think the SNP will be willing to do that, even though they really don't want the conservatives to win. They could outright refuse to form with Labour and contest it too.

If the Conservatives contest the vote as well, we could end up having to redo the general election.

It's all so messy.

Which parties want to give Scotland more wiggle room?

I heard Harper from Canada is dragged across the coals constantly, but I asked a Canadian what the other choices were he said his personal favorite lacked charisma and confidence like you said.

Except that UK Conservative party is more liberal and progressive than the US Democrat Party.
