Today the Supreme Court will have a closed-door meeting to look into the marriage case appeals of Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky who won at state level but lost at the appeals court and Louisiana who lost at the first trial.
It was revealed that last time the Supreme Court denied hearing cases that brought marriage to Utah for example, only two Justices voted to take up a case. Justice Ginsburg later said that the court was hesitant because all appeals had been successful up to that point. Now that the 6th Circuit disagreed with rest of the appeals courts let's hope we get those 4 votes needed to accept a review.
Within a few days we will know the possible outcome which may be:
- They decline to hear a case again, which means the Circuit ruling stands and it's bad news for MI/OH/KY/TN couples.
- They send it to a second review
- They pick a case (all bets on Michigan) and rule at the end of June.
I will keep you all posted
