(Done!) Ewan's Encyclopedia of Music for 2016!

What up - it's ya alphabetical boi Ewan here, back with another best of list! 2014 was my start with just listing musicians in alphabetical order with a song that I liked best from their musical body of work (whether it be an album, EP, or standalone single). An example is (spoilers) with A, I'll post Ariana Grande & a song like Dangerous Woman.

Since 2015 I've been essentially doing the same thing, but trying to be a bit more creative. Last year I did some alphabet soup fun & this year I figured I'd show my smart side by going with an encyclopedia!

I'm gonna test the waters with a musician with numbers in their name (wonder who that will be) since there's just one musician in that book. That'll be sometime later today since I'm gonna try to get stuff together (and honestly catch up on as much missed music as I can).

Definitely no update tomorrow since I'll be at a sport game after work, but hopefully we can begin the A's on Tuesday. & this will start to look better once we get to the actual alphabet. Alright, here we go!

The 1975

Why: I've kinda always liked these guys - even their debut LP which a lot of people didn't seem to enjoy I took away a lot of good songs from them (Girls in particular I've always liked). Of course, this LP is much much better, and even though it kinda drags as a whole, the highs are really quite good, this song included.

The reason why I went with The Sound is because it's got that great mix of house/funk and their typical "indie" pop-rock. The chorus is anthemic, in a good way, and they really do a good job of drilling the song to the listener with the backing vocals in the chorus. I really like it!

I also enjoyed:

UGH! - it's a bit of a throwback to the last album, this one huh, with his voice being more on that weird "gritty" side.
She's American - might just be partial to this as a UK-US hybrid myself. Love the chorus
Somebody Else - definitely my #2 from the album, it's very atmospheric & pretty. That bridge into the guitar solo is so good too

I didn't care for:

Nana - there aren't really any songs that I dislike honestly, but this & the song after are very much hidden bonus track material & I don't care for them.

UGH was okay but The Sound was a bit of a letdown for me. Maybe they're just not my style.
