To be honest, Adele is not soul. Her music does habour soul elements and influences. She's mainly a pop artist who incorporate other genre influences into her music as well.

Wasn't this from years ago? Like back in 2008 when Chasing Pavements and American Boy were out, Estelle went in a few interviews saying that white people like Adele, Amy Winehouse and Duffy (who were all big at the time) weren't real soul artists.
