I feel the thread is pointless now. I just went in there for the first time in ages yesterday, & it seemed very different. All the people that used to use it now rarely do.
Anyway, the thread doesn't seem open for replies right now. Did the mods go ahead & do it (lol)?
It used to be at least amusing but now people seem to just attack people in a deeply personal way. People come here to talk about music and in some cases to escape their own lives whether its due to boredom or whatever else, no-one comes here to be attacked whether it is about their personality or their appearance. It could be argued that no-one should take anything here seriously but some people are more vulnerable than they will let anyone know. I know friends here have been hurt badly by the things some people have said, often unprovoked. Nothing on here should get personal, it's about music and celebrities not us.

I also think a lot of problems on ATRL would be fixed if people didn't have somewhere to run to in order to bad mouth anyone.
If someone makes you that mad do it in the thread that they are making you mad in, otherwise try and be the bigger person or even a decent person and just keep your mouth shut. People on an internet site shouldn't affect you enough for you to attack them, if you think it's funny try and think about how it is for other people, not everyone is secure and not everyone will take it as a joke. All the recent cases of teen suicides should be a warning to everyone here, some people may be in the situation where all they need is one little push and some people might be completely turned around by people saying something nice.

I don't think any of the moderators want to permanently close No Holds Barred. When it's being used appropriately it serves a purpose of catching most of the argumentative posts that might spill out into other areas of the forum were it not available. Right now we have an issue with members who seem to mistake NHB for the Random Thoughts thread. They post an endless stream of useless ********, mistakenly thinking that they're somehow entertaining us. They aren't. No Holds Barred is far more entertaining and useful when it is being used to address legitimate drama. NHB was not created with the idea that people would live in the thread. The vast majority understand this and use the thread appropriately, only posting there when the occasional scandal/outburst arises.
The moderators are looking into one possible solution that might help things quite a bit. We hope that it will help things return to normal with that thread, but until then we're forced to keep it closed for certain periods of time.
You can create exclusivity within a forum by restricting an entire subforum or threads from individual posters or groups of posters(i.e. non-registered members not being able to view _______ without logging in).
The problem is how to tackle the issue as a whole. I would take 'Stand Your Ground' out of Celebria along with taking 'No Holds Barred' and 'Random Thoughts' out of The Lounge and make a new subforum with ONLY the three non-reportable zones.
This would allow a number of issues to be solved with keeping certain posters out of said zones without punishing use of the entire forum.
When I was a moderator at a different forum, we simply banned users from the specific "bashing" zone of the forum for a determined number of days or, in rare cases, indefinitely.
