KcTotalsBlog-Most Played Songs of 2008 so far..(GA, Leona, Brit)
Hey everyone, this is my new strictly REVIEWS only blog. Everyday I'll review something (be it an album, a film, a video game) along with a single review. I want you to share your thoughts, tell me if I'm wrong...but please COMMENT!!
It has already been released in some countries, but it's major European release is yet to come, so here is my review for Fantastic 4 - Rise of the Silver Surfer!!!! PLEASE COMMENT!!
Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer
In a summer in which each sequel has proved to be disappointing and less stunning than its predecessors, Silver Surfer is like a ray of hope. Spiderman may have drawn the crowd, but its intense marketing left fans and others viewers expecting more. Surfer on the other hand has been an underdog story. With little yet sufficient marketing campaigns, FF2 may truly be the sleeper hit of the summer.
At the beginning of the film we find luckless Sue and Reed trying to tie the knot when a mysterious force ruins their wedding day. Driven by this, the four heroes begin their intensive research and start attempting to catch the enigmatic Silver Surfer. All seems to be going well, until an old friend returns from Latevria.
Performances in FF were weak, and I cannot say that they have improved so much. Nevertheless, this time they somehow become more than simply awesome humans for children. Ioan Gruffudd is back as the Silver Surfer, and I am in favour of the writers’ decision to bring him out like a proper nerd, which he is the comics. Jessica Alba falls into that category of actresses which have looks, but little talent, even though this kind of blandness is evident in Sue too. Chris Evans is definitely one of the most up and coming stars of Hollywood, and whilst judging him on his acting isn’t that easy, he’s got that charisma and charm which easily makes him an audience favourite. In the last film, Michael Chiklis, as the Thing, had a far more interesting role, as he was insecure and ashamed of how he was, and whilst it’s certainly a nice change to have a superhero film without these internal conflicts, his character is ignored.
In terms of action sequences, the film delivers, and whilst it certainly is becoming boring to see Sue Storm producing force fields, the Silver Surfer is extremely welcome, as he pumps up the action. From the thrilling city chase to the evasion of rockets during his capture, every moment in which he’s on the screen, the film sees a colossal improvement. Dr. Doom has lost his charm and his final showdown is rather disappointing. And even though Galactus isn’t as awe inspiring as in the comics, the scale is huge and it gives rise to much more exciting sequences.
The special effects have improved and whilst the Silver Surfer is the main highlight, Galactus is also a feast for the eyes. However, my favourite special effects sequence has to the creation of the crater in the river Thames. The scene was climatic and you could for once feel the tension and fear of the citizens.
A disappointment in the film has to be the lack of emotion. When Sue and Reed plan to abandon the group you’d expect some more drama, but everything is shallow and the film goes on without giving any importance to these scenes which could be emotional heavyweights.
Verdict
Fantastic Four 2 has its flaws, but unless you are one of those people who start freaking out as soon as they see something that is different from the comic, then you’ll find this film to be a relaxing and fun treat, coupled with a priceless 93 minute running time.

Single Review - Paula DeAnda - Easy
Whilst everyone is still coveting Whine Up as the song of the Summer, it's Paula DeAnda sizzling Easy which steals the limelight. For while Whine Up was all about loud and louder, Easy works on the seductiveness that made Promiscuous such a big hit last year.
Paula's voice may not be very strong, but for a song like this, high notes would have ruined it. Bow Wow is potent as his rap isn't the usual loud rapping, but a short subtle rap which sticks to the beat. What I don't like is the lack of variety in the beat, which while being hot as hell does not develop in an interesting way. Still, I'll be looking forward to her new album.

KCTOTAL's REVIEW Centre - My December REVIEWED!!!!
THANK YOU for the positive response to my new Review's thread yesterday!
Today, I shall review Kelly Clarkson's third album My Decembrt! Classic? Boring? Innovitive?
Wait and See!!!
Album Review - My December
1. Never Again - An impeccable opening track, with a not so subtle revenge theme. Whilst the intro is a chilling start, it's the song's loud chorus which truly stands out. The lyrics are powerful and demanding, and should snag your attention immediately. 87/100
2. One Minute - If Never Again opened the album with great force, then what can be said of the second single? Starting with a Texas inspired sound, the song opens well, with a lyric which stays in your head "You're going Crazy, Running on Empty...". But the song's opening is only mediocre when compared to the excellent chorus, which is fast-moving and full of energy. The lyrics are friendlier here, and brilliant for chilling out! 94/100
3. Hole - Not as commanding as the other songs, probably because of an undeveloped chorus, which doesn't sound as good as it should. Still, the powerful guitar opening that made Shut Up and Drive and Party Like a Rockstar popular is present and it works well! 78/100
4. Sober - One of the most exemplary songs on the album, using a slow but powerful build up which results in an over the top ending which truly showcases Kelly's potent voice. It's only fault is that the album version is slightly repetitive, but the song is nevertheless one of Kelly's best. 91/100
5. Don't Waste Your Time - This is where My December goes incredibly wrong, surfacing as an uninspired and mediocre song which is as innovative a new burger from McDonalds! This is probably the worst song on the album. - 57/100
6. Judas - The song is another boyfriend-ditching song like Never Again, but whilst it is not nearly as captivating, Judas is still a pleasant song with an airplay friendly chorus. 80/100
7. Haunted - Haunted is a HUGE disappointment. It's build up and chilling intro are ridiculed by a chorus worthy of a six-year old. The music is good, but Kelly is painfully lost on this track. 61/100
8. Be Still - A good song, with a soothing chorus and equally peaceful verses. Whilst it is perfect for late voyages and travels, nothing else truly remains of it when the essentials are removed. 72/100
9. Maybe - This is one of My December's better tracks, with a country feel which suits Kelly really well. This is perhaps a revelation for Kelly but it is a good one, and whilst Be Still, was as shallow as a puddle in their street, Maybe has an undeniable soul! 87/100
10. How I Feel - This song is overrated and whilst there is nothing potentially wrong in it, there's nothing potentially good either, and the transition from the verse to the chorus is once again basic, and very simple, which makes me wonder, how much effort Kelly actually put in to the album. 67/100
11. Yeah - Thankfully Short! But not a bad song! It reminds me of Joss Stone, but while it may sound stupid to some, others will find it to be the most musical track on the album, with a chorus accompanied by horns. A daring move for Kelly! 82/100
12. Can I Have a Kiss - Kelly goes country again, but this time the song sounds repetitive and lacks Maybe's heart replacing it with an annoying verse "Can I gove you a kiss?" and whilst this song sounds well when hearing it for the first time, the song then falls flat on its face, with absolutely no innovation. 59/100
13. Irvine - I fell to sleep during this unworthy song which does Kelly no good. The album closes on a dormant note, which leaves a bad sound in the listener's ear. A similar problem was encountered by JoJo who ended her sophomore album with Note to God, a song which betrays the previous songs' energy. Plus, it's not worth waiting for the hidden track. 54/100
Overall
Whilst the album barely reaches BreakAway's momentum, it does have it's good moments, but these are unfortunately ruined by beats which are carried on in each song, and choruses which defy their brilliant build ups. My December is flawed, but whilst fans may take in this album well, it is not everyone's cup of tea!

Single Review - 50 Cent feat. Justin TImberlake - AYO Technology
AYO Technology starts excruciatingly bad, with 50 Cent doing the usual unnecessary role call. But do not fear, for what follows is a classic techno-rap song which blends both Justin's and 50's style. Justin's hook is solid and strong, and the chorus is an inspired take on the Chili Pepper's Hey Oh!
Still, with Summer slowly nearing its end this song should fit in well, with undeniably potent beats, and a brilliant collaboration which once again reconfirms Timberlake as the king of dance and beats. 50 Cent is also good, but Justin easily steals the show!

KCTOTAL's REVIEW Centre - TRANSFORMERS!!!!!
I saw it on Thursday, and I'm telling you, it ROCKS!! Here's my review for Transformers!!!
Transformers
Finally a non-sequel!!! It’s not that this year’s sequels weren’t good, but you have to admit that the vast number of franchises was getting stale. In comes Transformers with as much hype to fill in the entire world’s theatres, and whilst this film is not for girls, it is one hell of a ride for fans of the original animated series and even to those who didn’t know who the hell Meagatron was!
In Qatar the American military forces, are attacked by a mysterious and unknown force, which leaves many dead with the sole exceptions of Captain Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and his team. Meanwhile, back in the “normal” world, luckless Sam gets his first car, which incidentally turns out to be an autobot with the name Bumblebee. Eager to impress high-school hottie Mikela, Sam offers her a ride, but when things start to go wrong and Sam is attacked by one of the Deceptions, Sam and Mikela must put aside their prejudices and work alongside the Autobots led by the legendary Optimus Prime in an epic battle against the Deceptions under the commands of the menacing Megatron.
I wasn’t expecting any superb acting turns from this movie, but I was surprised to find that the film sported many good performances. Shia LeBeouf is an excellent choice for the role of Sam WitWicky, giving a performance bustling with charisma and crackling with energy. He has been rightly tagged as Hollywood’s next big thing! Megan Fox is a newcomer, but even though when she was on screen, her acting skills were the last thing I was thinking about. Still, her character is ruddy brilliant, and Michael Bay gad already used this technique with Scalett Johannsen on The Island. Josh Duhamel isn’t bad either, even though his problems and inner conflict are hardly hinted at. Jon Voigt’s character is unnecessary and is in my opinion miscast as his role should have gone to a younger, more menacing actor. But overall, this is a very good haul, with the young leads obviously standing out.
The screenplay is decent, and the dialogue is classic Michael Bay. What bothers me is that when important topics are raised these are drained by an explosion or any other form of noisy distraction. Pity though! Also the film is unbelievably humorous, and whilst most of its humour is dark, the jokes centre on awkwardness and embarrassment instead of the usual slapstick humour. The film also goes around the usual boy meets girl fun, and this played quite well, with LeBeouf easily making us sympathise with him.
The special effects are unprecedented, and this is because it is much more difficult to use special effects with robots which are huge and made up of a good many things, than with let’s say Spiderman. The effects are put to good use, but they never take complete control. Megatron is obviously the film’s tour-de-force and the Autobots are similarly good, even though the voice acting could’ve been far better. Still, their ridiculousness had me roaring with laughter! The final battle is epic, but it’s a little to….busy…to truly stand out. Mini battles happen within the big battle which causes confusion.
Verdict
If treated as a comedy, this film will go down in film history books, as an action movie, it is the mother of all, but as the best film of the year, it needs more drama to go down with the brilliant humour and action.

Single Review - Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone
Girlfriend may have put Avril back into the music scene, but whilst the songs was a vibrant upbeat tour-de-force, it's her sophomore single which catches the ear! Starting with a quiet piano intro, Avril's soothing and positively innocent voice instantly captures your attention.
The lyrics are rather cheesy, but the song is nevertheless potent, delivering the same effect as Green Day's brilliant Wake Me Up When September Ends. The chorus is simple and whilst Avril never reaches her vocal peak, it's nice to see that some artists are capable of singing slow songs without ending up like Christina Aguilera. Ballad of the Yea? This is certainly a frontrunner!

KCTOTAL's REVIEW Centre - The Best Damn THing
THANK YOU for the positive response to my new Review's thread yesterday!
Today, I shall review Avril Lavigne's third album The Best Damn Thing!
Wait and See!!!
Album Review - The Best Damn Thing
1. Girlfriend - Fans of the old Avril may find this song quite shocking, but this is in fact nearly pure genius. Blending an upbeat rhythm with a chorus to die for, and you have one of the most creative singles of the year! 89/100
2. I Can Do Better - This is my favorite song on the album, mainly because of Travis Barker's great drum opening. The lyrics are shallow, but the chorus is exceptional! 94/100
3. Runaway - Another brilliant song which reminds me of Avril's past songs. A brilliant change from the verses to the chorus, make the song another favorite! 91/100
4. The Best Damn Thing - This was the first bad song on the album, mostly because it borrows a little too much from Girlfriend. 64/100
5. When You're Gone - Girlfriend may have put Avril back into the music scene, but whilst the songs was a vibrant upbeat tour-de-force, it's her sophomore single which catches the ear! Starting with a quiet piano intro, Avril's soothing and positively innocent voice instantly captures your attention. 91/100
6. Everything Back but You - This song is not one of the album's best, an the problem is once again that it sounds a little too much like Girlfriend. 62/100
7. Hot - This is not an instant classic, but it is a grower and it becomes even better the more times you hear it! 84/100
8. Innocence - This song is no WYG, but Avril's soft voice once again wins me over even though the song is still not perfect. 74/100
9. I Don't Have to Try - This is another song which is in my opinion "bad". It's all been there done that and there's nothing particularly new in this song. 63/100
10. One of Those Girls - I somehow really like this song, and whilst it is once again nothing new, it's fun lyrics and chorus make up for it's faults. 80/100
11. Contagious - There's nothing wrong, but nothing that good either, so this is mainly just filler material. - 72/100
12. Keep Holding On - It's a potentially good ballad and whilst it has very cheesy lyrics, it is nonetheless a good song. 82/100
Rating - 84/100
Thanks for tuning in...Tomorrow a much expected review of Mr Bean's Holiday!!
