CBC-TV's newlywed teen sitcom nets ABC as U.S. partner
A comedy pilot about 18-year-old newlyweds being developed for CBC-TV has also found an American partner, U.S. network ABC.
CBC Television unveiled on Monday afternoon plans for 18 To Life, a new half-hour, single-camera sitcom about a young couple who marry at the age of 18.
The comedy will follow the pair as they embark on their new life — one that their respective parents and even their friends are not thrilled about, according to a statement.
ABC has acquired the U.S. broadcast rights to the upcoming program, which will star two faces familiar to Canadian teen television: Stacey Farber (formerly of Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Michael Seater (from Life With Derek) as the young couple.
The cast will also include The Newsroom's Peter Keleghan and the show will be helmed by Slings and Arrows director Peter Wellington.
The show is created, written and executive produced by Derek Schreyer and Karen Troubetzkoy, who previously worked together on the popular Canadian teen show 15/Love.
ABC Family, an offshoot of the main network, purchased episodes of CBC-TV's comedy Sophie, about an urban single mom, earlier this year.
