Discussion: Is Racism towards Asians Ignored?

I am usually not one to make a big deal out of certain race issues, but I've been noticing in many ATRL threads how racism towards Asians is heavily overlooked, specifically in these 2 threads.

The Martian white-washing Asian-American roles gets slammed

Why no major Asian pop stars in the US?

Some of these posts really made me think that racism towards both Asians and Asian-Americans is very overlooked, and that if these posts were directed towards Black people instead, there would be a much different reaction.

But if by "racism against Asians" you mean Katy Perry's "Unconditionally" performance at the AMAs... well... that's NOWHERE near racism, more like ignorance on Asian cultures

And calling Asian pop pure trash isn't racist, it's an opinion that I share.

Definitely. Casual racism is so prevalent towards Asians. I've seen a group of people - black, white, Hispanic, gay, straight - laugh at a group of Asians for posing for pictures in front of a landmark. Like, everyone takes pictures in front of this landmark yet when Asians do it they're fulfilling some stereotype and for some reason it's okay for everyone to laugh at.

I honestly don't take it seriously at all. I don't care if Katy perry wears a kimono to perform in fact I actually appreciate it.

However I find it upsetting that Black people are allowed to speak against racism against there people with such conviction on this site (which I find VERY admirable), but when asians do it, they do receive the same respect.

Yes. But I think its because for the most part Asians are viewed as a "model minority" (they are 'majority' race but not outside of Asia) so any racism against them is downplayed. Asians do get the short end of the stick when it comes to diversity because to diversify something usually means adding black or hispanic people. Idk why Asian musicians/actors aren't as popular. I think its a mix of racism and being a low population

Yeah it is definitely given a lot more leeway for it to be seen as ok. Some people are just going to be racist and ignorant no matter what
