Let's get the obvious out of the way first: "Good luck getting past the first 40 singles, Red!" "Looking forward to you not finishing another year-end thread, Red!" "You're quite the sexy beast, Red!"
...wait, how did the last one get in there?
If you're a long-time follower of my year-enders, you know that I have a recent tendency to not be able to finish what I've started. The last three years, I have went from barely failing to finish a year-ender to not even making it to the top 60 without disappearing last year. Oh, and if you're wondering, "Hey, Red, did you ever finish that top 100 from last year"...as it turns out, I did! It's over at my (right now dormant)
B Likes to Talk blog, complete with blurbs and everything! I'll probably get around to posting the top 60 here as a means of killing time while I get started on all of my blurbs, but, for now, I hope that will suffice.
Now, as for this year, I've devised a bit of a strategy. No, unlike those of you who have actually done the smart thing and planned everything out by the day, I'm still just posting whatever I want, whenever I want to. This is more of a strategy to actually finish my year-end thread this year. I will probably fail, but at least I'm honest, right? This year, I've come up with five lists, four normal and one special. The four normal top lists are old standbys (Singles, Albums, YouTube) and a returning favorite (Songs from the Past). The only real difference in these lists this year is with the Albums list, where I was able to find 20 (yes, 20) albums to gush about.
But what about the special list? Well, this particular list is where my strategy is coming into play. I cannot promise that this particular list will be completed, but it's certainly there as a means of motivating me to finish my 2014 singles list. That's the intent, anyway. This is a list that has been kicking around for a couple of years, a list that, if completed, would probably be my biggest undertaking on ATRL to date. I want to take a look back at ten years of YECA goodness (and dear god, this is the
ELEVENTH year of the YECA. I'm so old) by putting together a list of my 200 favorite singles of the YECA era, from the years 2004 through 2013. Again, no promises that I'll complete it, but I'm hopeful to.
With all of that having been said (and boy, is it ever a mouthful), here's the rundown of what to look forward to in this, the eleventh YECA thread! As with last year, if you want to check out the lists with only one post, click on the banner to go straight to the list. This will especially be the case for the YouTube list.
And hey, if you want to check out my previous year-end threads (though focus more on the later years...the first couple of YECA years are JUST a little cringeworthy at times), here's a rundown of the nine YECAs that are readily available to view. Damn you, ATRL, for not having posts from before 2005.
As I said earlier, the first post will likely be a recap of last year's Singles list (or, in other words, what wasn't posted last year). After that will be the first list of THIS year's YECA, the Top 10 YouTube Videos of 2014. Let's have some fun, boys and girls.
And please, Best of gods, let me finish this thread for once.
