The Best of the Best Week 7: Get Up TearyBack!
That title is as lame as this week's competition.
Shakira, performing Underneath Your Clothes
Korn, performing Here to Stay
Missy Elliot, performing Teary Eyed
Beastie Boys, performing 3 The Hard Way
Black Eyed Peas, Don't Lie
Avenged Sevenfold, performing Bat Country
Justin Timberlake, performing Sexyback
Ciara, performing Get Up
Fall Out Boy, performing Dance, Dance
Mandy Moore, performing Crush
Natasha Bedingfield, perfoming Say It Again
And, just as a sidenote, when I typed NATASHA BEDINGFIELD into Google Images - on page TWO, there were no pictures of her - only of OTHER MORE FAMOUS POP STARS. Seriously, check it out! It's hilarious!
Listen to all eleven songs and post your comments in this thread. Then, send your rankings of all eleven songs to me via PM. Remember, 11 = most favorite song, and 1 = least favorite song.
RANKINGS DUE BY SUNDAY NIGHT At 10:10 P.M.
And here are the artists competing next week - a much, MUCH MUCH stronger week:
Fergie
Queens of the Stone Age
Beyonce
Linkin Park
Jet
No Doubt
Sugababes
Duffy
The White Stripes
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Robyn
Send your top fours - your top four songs that any and/or all of the artists above have released THIS DECADE - to me via pm. In the reverse of the rankings, your favorite song will go in the NUMBER ONE position.
TOP FOURS DUE BY FRIDAY NIGHT AT MIDNIGHT.
Feel free to FYC!

SexyBack only #4? Really? Yeah, it was my #3, but, come on, unless the top three is "My Love", "Cry Me A River", and "Rock Your Body", I don't buy it.
(Of course, if that *is* the Timberlake top three, then may I not say another word on the matter. )
And I can't freaking wait to trash some of the songs this week. I know going in that I like two, maybe three of the songs. This will be *fun*.

Underneath Your Clothes - I used to like it but I was pretty much about to fall asleep when I heard it this time. TO be honest, I couldn't even understand a single thing she was saying. Proof that Shakira is best seen not heard.
Here to Stay - Once again I couldn't understand a single thing. But I still *like* it quite a lot. In fact, it's much better than their recent singles.
Teary Eyed - Missy is only endurable when delivering short verses such as in Bad Girl or Do It, but this is actually relatively good. Can't believe she's on the list though. But, as of yet, she is still the only major rapperess of the 2000s. Its okay though.
3 The Hard Way - WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Don't Lie - This songs is definitely a gem. The first reason is that for once Fergie doesn't sound as horrendous as usual. Secondly, will.i.am and the rest are great on this track. Verdict? I honestly can't believe this is only no.4...
Bat Country - Much better than Korn....Its also one of my faves tis week,
SexyBack - Why? Just why? JT is probably one of my fave artists, but this song just doesn't work. At all. Vocals are obviously tampered with, and it's a real pity. Other songs, like My Love, WGA, Rock Your Body and FSLS are much better this one. Nevertheless, this will definitely be in my Top 5 this week.
Get Up - Ciara is overrated. VERY overrated. But this song is just great!!! CIara is good, bu Chamillionaire steals the show ....
Dance Dance - GREAT!!!
Crush -
Say It Again - Here is this week's second most overrated artist.......With the best song of the week. Its an acquired taste, and I didn't like it at first. But Adam Levine's vocals and Natasha's really work well together. This song is proof that Natasha is best when she is subtle and not when she's screeching her lungs out on songs like Sunshine.

Also, not to inspire conformity - but right now, three lists have been turned in for Beyonce. Three lists - TWELVE DIFFERENT SONGS. Please don't give me a headache!

NO! NO JESSICA SIMPSON PERFORMANCES!!!
Shakira, performing Underneath Your Clothes - Yes yes, she sings like a goat and the English on album one was...interesting? but I like this.
Korn, performing Here to Stay - Korn has been sorta hit or miss but I do like this song.
Missy Elliot, performing Teary Eyed - No, she can't really sing, but the aggression in the song works well and I like it much.
Beastie Boys, performing 3 The Hard Way - I have problems with the Beasties this century and while fine, I still don't like it all that much.
Black Eyed Peas, Don't Lie - I like it but it's sorta not all that great, isn't it?
Avenged Sevenfold, performing Bat Country - This song makes my teeth hurt.
Justin Timberlake, performing Sexyback - Is it wrong to love this song, even when he wears his gay bandito outfit inside Madonna's disco balls?
Ciara, performing Get Up - Is it wrong to love this song?
Fall Out Boy, performing Dance, Dance - It's sad that this was the reason I started to sorta stand Fall Out Boy. So I clearly should hate it but it's a clever single.
Mandy Moore, performing Crush - Love Mandy, love the song, love the video.
Natasha Bedingfield, perfoming Say It Again - Eh.

Shakira, performing Underneath Your Clothes
Beautiful ballad. I like Shakira's vocals in this song.
Korn, performing Here to Stay
I like this song. It's very powerful. "Untouchables" is my favorite Korn era.
Missy Elliot, performing Teary Eyed
I like the beat. The song is just ok for me.
Beastie Boys, performing 3 The Hard Way
First time I hear this song. It's good.
Black Eyed Peas, Don't Lie
One of the best songs of this group and one of the few good songs of Monkey Business.
Avenged Sevenfold, performing Bat Country
I don't like this song.
Justin Timberlake, performing Sexyback
Catchy song and beat. One of my favorite songs of Justin.
Ciara, performing Get Up
Hot song. I like the beat and it's one of the few songs I like of CiCi.
Fall Out Boy, performing Dance, Dance
This song is cool. The first song I liked of this band.
Mandy Moore, performing Crush
I enjoyed this song a lot. Very nice.
Natasha Bedingfield, perfoming Say It Again
Great song. Adam's backing vocals are good for this song.

Underneath Your Clothes
and
Here to Stay - Both of these songs are ingrained in my head. Both of these songs, I know by heart. But both of them come from opposite sides of the spectrum. I ****ing *hate* "Underneath Your Clothes". I hate the whiny vocals, I hate the boring sound, I hate the end chorus, I just...ARGH. On the other hand, "Here to Stay" is one of the seminal Korn tunes, a ball-buster that is incredibly powerful. Oh, and the video for "Here to Stay" is also one of the coolest of all-time.
Teary Eyed - Ehhhh. Nothing offensive or anything, but it was still pretty boring. I tried to get into it, but the beat sounded obnoxious, and I wasn't feeling Missy's vocals here.
3 The Hard Way - Now we're ****ing talking! Here's a group that doesn't need an awesome beat. I mean, the beat is alright for what it is. Very minimalistic. However, the beauty of the Beasties is how natural their flow is. I'm not sure if I would compare it to their best stuff of the 80's and 90's, but, for what it is, it works, and it works *very* well.
Don't Lie - Oh my god, is this week MEANT to torture me? Argh. What a terrible song. And the worst part is, up until the chorus, I don't mind it that much. And then, here comes Fergie, and I feel like I want to rip my ears off. No. Just...no.
Bat Country - Easily their worst single, but the opening scream still gets to me, to this day. It's a shame that the rest of the song doesn't quite match up to it. The follow-up single, "Beast and the Harlot"(which SHOULD be in the top three...I hope), takes this song and ***** on it ten times over.
SexyBack - I can totally understand why people would hate this song. It can be quite obnoxious and annoying. And it did annoy me, for a while. And then, I got into "My Love", which brought me back to "SexyBack", and I realized what I missed. It may not be the best song in the world, but it sure as HELL is catchy. In 2006, it was much needed. "I'm bringing SexyBack. Them mother****ers don't know how to act."
Get Up - It's no secret that I'm not a fan of Ciara. I've never liked her vocals. I realize that it's supposed to be a Janet Jackson-like vibe with her, but Janet DID have great vocals, once upon a time. "Get Up" doesn't sound original, to me. The beat is alright, but it's also pretty generic. And hey, look, a rap in the bridge area of the song! I've never heard that one before! At least Chamillionaire kick ass, or else, this song would be totally lost.
Dance, Dance - This was the first FOB song that I didn't immediately hate. It's not a GREAT song or anything, but it's a pretty frantic-sounding song, and Patrick knows how to do the frantic vocal style, so it all fits.
Crush - This was back in a time when Mandy was trying, as hard as she could, to mix the teen pop of her past with what she would, eventually, become, and it had mixed results. "Crush" is right along the middle line. It's not a bad song, not at all, but it's kind of bland, saved by Mandy's breezy vocals.
Say It Again - First of all, that picture choice...that's not going to be able to leave my mind. Damnit. Another case where the song is inoffensive, but it's nothing that special. I'm thankful that Natasha isn't screeching in this song, though, because you can only take so much of that before you lose your mind, and Adam Levine adds some nice background vocals to the equation. One thing is for certain: It's not even close to being the worst song of the week.
EDIT - I'm looking at my Top 11 for this group...and holy crap, what a terrible group. Wow.
