BRIT-nominated Ellie Goulding sees off Beyoncé to hold on to Official Albums Chart Number 1
Halcyon spends second week at Number 1 after close battle with Beyoncé’s self-titled album.
After taking 65 weeks to reach the top spot of the Official Albums Chart last week, Ellie Goulding certainly wasn’t going to give it up without a fight. Despite fierce competition from Beyoncé’s self-titled album, Ellie’s Halcyon held on to Number 1 for a second week.
Thanks to the continued success of tracks How Long Will I Love You and Burn – her first ever UK Number 1 single, and currently enjoying its 22nd week in the Top 40 – the album’s reissue Halcyon Days has sold over 680,000 copies in the UK so far. It’s been a pretty good week for Ellie – this week it was announced she was up for three BRIT Awards, including Best British Female and two nods for Best British Single.
Beyoncé, then, settles for second place, climbing one place with her self-titled album, spending her fifth week in the Top 5. Gary Barlow slips one place to Number 3 with Since I Saw You Last.
Completing the top 5 are John Newman’s Tribute, climbing one place to Number 4, while Bastille’s Bad Blood also advances one spot, rising to Number 5 this week.
