A. Album sales have tanked in general. Stupid ****ing argument to say that an album from the early 2000s or late 90s can be compared sales-wise to ones from the late 2000s and 2010s.

B. Britney's albums have been out longer

no. britney's very public meltdown put an end to that type of obsessive media attention. after seeing the damage its capable of i think media outlets and the GP stopped putting people on such extreme pedestals. they still build people up to tear them down, but not with the same ferocity.

in the days of social media/constant change there will never be a star who becomes THE popstar ever again. britney happened in the right place at the right time.

Britney wasn't big when touring became a big thing, she was big when people sold albums, and she sold more than anyone.


To answer the OP NO, because music is too competitive these days, the last decade without social media and stuff it was easyfor the world to focus in one superstar, now we have to much variety. Britney was the last super mega star we had ala Madonna, Michael Jackson etc...

No, Britney was a phenomenon, she was literally the most famous girl in the world. Gaga at her peak was never as big because she didn't have Britney's sex appeal, and Katy has the sex appeal but isn't interesting enough in any other regard.
