I don't know for sure, but considering the advertisements for this year's VMAs were centred around Beyonce, it's safe to say that is what people would be coming to see. It's like if you had a market and you only pretty much put pictures of oranges in your ads, you'd expect that when people show up they are coming for oranges.

Actually, when Beyonce was walking the red carpet she was holding her stomach, creating a lot of buzz right before the show which likely would have given it some more viewers. I know I watched because of that. Many blogs were already saying she was pregnant before her performance because of that.

Wasn't 2011 the year Gaga opened as a man? And Adele performed? And Beyonce performed?

Then again, how do you guys know Britney pulled in those views. So many things happened in 2011. Google 2011 VMA Recap and everything is literally about Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Jay Z & Kanye West. 2011 VMAs were amazing. It was full of A-List celebrities, amazing performances.
2014 VMAs were boring as ****, and only Taylor Swift & Beyonce & Nicki Minaj were the performances being hyped for that the GP is aware of. You guys literally are all putting it on Beyonce when the award show was boring itself It had a corny host, boring performances. It was just messy. I didn't even know Britney won the award until I joined ATRL.

Britney is a Legend, her appearance alone brings million views, while the 2014 filled with 5SOS fans so Bey didn't really get that much of hype
