Not quite a Top 10, though it'll develop into an actual countdown:
I've always been proud of how progressive and diverse the UK's urban music scene is - and as somebody with close ties to the scene, I want to showcase to the predominantly-American ATRL crowd some of what I consider the best songs from the UK, and who knows, perhaps I'll help in getting new fans on-board?!
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: The UK urban scene is considered progressive. What does that mean? It means our urban music is influenced by a very broad sound palette, ranging from pop to rock to EDM to African-beats, as well as the conventional hip-hop and R&B sounds. Our urban scene has a lot of garage and drum n bass influence, and also incorporates the grime sub-culture. Additionally, many of our rappers sing. The majority of the UK urban audience doesn't discriminate and is very open to this variety - please keep an open mind too!
I will structure my Showcase as follows:
- Today - an urban song that is currently doing well in the UK
- Future - a track that I think will be big in the coming months
- Classic - an older track that is still just as fresh as when it first smashed
- Legacy - a track that didn't necessarily smash, but is left its mark!
