I'm just looking at her metacritic profile and I'm so surprised to see that every album she has released since 2001 doesn't go above a score of 70. In fact, her average career score is only 60.
Why such low scores? Do the critics not like her or are her albums just not that good? I personally like some of these albums, so it's interesting to see that she has such mediocre critical acclaim considering the fact that she's considered one of the greatest songwriters of her generation.
Discuss.

And no one sans the Mimi stans claims she's one of the best songwriters of all time, especially considering how strained thematically her music is, and how many of her songs sound alike

No, we'll just let all those awards she's won for her songwriting speak for themselves.
Anyway the truth is Mariah suffered from the critical backlash that all the big vocalists faced in the 90s. Whitney and Celine, despite winning AOTY, were dragged by critics.
She still is the most influential vocalist of the last 30 years and her catalog embarrasses everyone in this thread's fave
