"Fancy" received positive reviews and was also commercially successful, having reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming both Azalea's and Charli XCX's first number-one on that chart, holding the spot for seven consecutive weeks. It has also topped the charts in Canada and New Zealand and had chart success around the world, including reaching the top ten in several countries such as Australia and United Kingdom, where it became her first top five hit in both countries as a lead artist.
"Fancy" was covered by many artists, such as Anna Kendrick on the 39th season of Saturday Night Live, and received remix versions by rappers such as Da Brat and Lil' Kim.
The track was also named Billboard's Song of the Summer for 2014, as well as the most-streamed song on Spotify and most-watched music video on VEVO in 2014 in America. It received nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 57th Grammy Awards. "Fancy" has sold seven million copies digitally, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Azalea has been nominated for numerous major music awards including the MTV Video Music Awards and the World Music Awards.
Azalea's first notable nomination was in 2013 by the MTV Video Music Awards where she was up for Artist To Watch for her debut single "Work". 2014 proved to be Azalea's mainstream breakthrough year as she was nominated for several awards from various events. Azalea won her first award from the American Music Awards taking home Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, while being the most nominated artist of the event in six categories. Azalea was nominated for eight MTV Video Music Awards, also making her the most nominated artist in the 2014 edition of that event, and won an award with Ariana Grande for Best Pop Video for the single "Problem". Azalea has been nominated for multiple awards in the Australian music industry such as the ARIA Music Awards including a win for Breakthrough Artist.
In 2015, Azalea received four nominations at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Fancy" and Best Rap Album for The New Classic. She also won Favorite Hip-Hop Artist at the 41st People's Choice Awards.

Lil' Kim with No Time and MC Lyte with Cold Rock A Party were the last two female rappers as lead artists to hold the #1 and #2 positions on the Hot Rap Songs chart. This first occurred December 14, 1996 when MC Lyte rose to #2 on the chart. She stayed at #2 for six weeks with Kim at #1 until they switched positions (#1 - Lyte; #2 - Kim) on January 18th, 1997. They stayed like that for another week before another song surpassed them both.
