So I've decided to get on my first Best of the Best countdown this year even though I have no idea what I listened to this year . I don't know how to make a banner either But here are a few artists you can expect to make an appearance on my countdown instead in some capacity as consolation .
With Special Appearances By:
Beyoncé
Katy Perry
Adele
Rihanna
AND MANY, MANY MORE!
I'm going to be counting down my Top 40 favorite singles/songs of the year and then the Top 10 albums this year. Expect a lot of surprises, and a lot of unexpected songs to pop up along the way from many genres. We'll be starting with the Top Singles first, possibly sometime late tonight.
Okay let's get this started. I'm gonna say putting this list together was really difficult, as none of my faves were doing anything interesting at all this year, therefore the list is VERY pop radio heavy. But enough about that.
40. Moves Like Jagger- Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera
Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera certainly had a career boost from "The Voice" as it spawned the multi-week number #1 hit that's "Moves Like Jagger." Light, catchy and poppy although Christina adds absolutely nothing to the song with her 30 sec cameo and random, assorted shouts, at least she was able put some positive focus back on her music again..
39. Criminal- Britney Spears
Although I'm not a huge Britney fan like I was around the Teen Pop era as my music taste has changed so much, I occasionally check for the occasional Britney song. However, I wasn't feeling many of her singles this era, besides "Hold It Against Me" which narrowly missed this list. In her only appearance on this countdown, Britney delivers her vocals and the lyrics in such an understated and yet direct way, really giving life to the vulnerability of the song. The flute in the production is also a nice touch as well.
38. Antes de las seis- Shakira
As my number 2 fave, Shakira wasn't really impressing much me during the "Sale el Sol" era, music wise(or promo wise but that's another story ) However, as the final single of the era, and her only apperance on the countdown, "Antes de las seis" is an updated take on what made her famous in the first place-- her singing rock music. Throwing in the mandolin while random, also gives character what otherwise would've been a faceless ballad.
37. S&M- Rihanna
Okay. If you've listening to this song and you haven't felt like a dirty ****, then you've obviously been listening to this song wrong. This is a **** anthem, through and through and one of the best of 2011, invoking imagery of painful yet somehow pleasureful sexual activities. And that's all I gotta say, now go pop your damn *****. And the less said about that remix that Britney recorded while suffering from a life threatening sinus infection the better.
36. If I Die Young- The Band Perry
I'm sticking this on here as it didn't exist to me until 2011. But wow This song really made me think, especially about a topic you never expect to hear on pop radio, and especially as I was going through some very difficult times. Simply a beautiful song.
