Yes, obviously they didnt know the first thing about wine (like 99% of people who actually drink it) and so they were not seasoned to tell if the bottle was worth $40 or 100x that. The differences are subtle. Of course they had a problem with it.
It's the waiter's fault, for such a price tag, you should not communicate a price in the thousands as simply "thirty seven, fifty". She is missing the word "HUNDRED" in there, a pretty large emission.
