When Coldplay released the official track list for their forthcoming LP, Mylo Xyloto, there wasn't a single scribble of Rihanna's name as a guest artist, but The Sun is now reporting in an exclusive interview that RiRi herself will be featured on the album's track "Princess of China." Chris Martin said of the collaboration:
"She has such an amazing voice and it's so different to mine. When the vocal happened I thought 'Wow, you sound different' but I think that's also because she was singing a different song to what we are used to hearing from her and it is written by a bloke from Devon."
He later admits that he was extremely nervous to ask the "Rude Boy" singer if she wanted to work with Coldplay, but he finally found the strength and asked her. According to Martin, Rihanna plays the female lead role in the album's storyline:
"The album is designed as a whole piece. It has boy and girl lead characters and top of our list for the girl part was Rihanna... but it took a while to pluck up the courage to ask her."
If "Princess of China" is anything like RiRi's past collaborations ("Love the Way You Lie," "All of the Lights," "Live Your Life"), this song has No. 1 hit written all over it. Mylo Xyloto drops October 24, 2011.
I hope it's true. The Sun has a horrid reputation of making **** up all the time. I really wouldn't get my hopes up. Oh well, we'll find out on the 24th.
This better be the second single!! We need something to have for the Fall. We want to ensure that this becomes big so that the 6th album gets even more delay
