I will introduce my list of my Top Ten albums and videos of 2011.
The first ones are always the toughest. Trust me, this will become like second nature to you in future years. Hell, as you go along THIS year, it'll get easier.
I expect to see some Foo Fighters and Adele, Mr. DJ.
I first heard of Sophie Ellis Bextor in 2001 with the infectious “Murder on the Dancefloor”. Then, I never heard of her again until her June release “Make a Scene”. It was on outright flop in the UK album charts (debuted at #33), but you know what? I don’t give a ****. Every song feels like a hit one after the other. Magic, campy, great melodies and husky vocals on point, “Scene” should have deservedly been Bextor’s triumphant comeback to the mainstream scene. If staying irrelevant and flopping gives you green light for amazing electronic tracks, then **** the charts. Key Tracks: "Bittersweet", "Not Giving Up On Love", "Starlight"
When I first commented on this track, I have to admit that I didn't know what I was talking about. I was so clueless and ignorant that I mixed up the names and I thought that the legendary Babs had released a dance (!) track called Duck Sauce . But I did my research and I found one of the most strident love letters to New York City.
9. Kanye West - "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"
I feel like I’m cheating here, because this is a 2010 release (the first one out of two in this countdown), but this is one those masterpieces that surpasses limits of time and space, and will always sound fresh and timeless no matter what year it is being discussed or reviewed. I have to say that I am not into rap at all, but I decided to give it a listen to see what the fuss it was all about, and to say that I was hooked is an understatement. I still remember the first time I heard “Runaway”. It was like Kanye talking to me and my ****ed up life, and I just burst out in tears. Not all is drama, though. I let loose every time I play “Monster” and listen with delight to how Nicki Minaj overshadows every single MC with her vocal histrionics. Such a powerful tatement did Kanye West make with this release. **** the Grammys, Kanye! Sometimes I think you’re vastly overrated, but this is a true masterpiece. Key Tracks: all of them.
See, you're already doing a better job of this than I did with my first year-ender. Hell, at least you'll probably finish yours. That, and my year-ender then didn't have MBDTF.
