"Call Me Maybe" - Carly Rae Jepsen

It may be a guilty pleasure, but it has that killer hook that took over 2012. The video is simple, yet kind of adorable, and the lyrics are so cheesy you can't help but laugh as you sing along; but the fact is, the song made me feel good this year, regardless of its' artistic merits. Also: the lip-dubs to this song this year have been amazing.




"Bel Air" - Lana Del Rey

It may put you to sleep, but this is truly Lana's greatest song so far, in my opinion. The production is relatively simple, there's no silly talk-rapping (which works in some songs, but I find it obnoxious in others), and the lyrics are beautiful. Truly a stunning song.




"Ima Read" - Zebra Katz feat. Njena Reddd Foxxx

So most of you were probably first exposed to this song through Azealia's mixtape 'Fantasea' (more on that later), but my favorite version of "Ima Read" is still the original. I don't think I need to explain why this is so amazing. Zebra's flow is amazing and he really has been an important figure (if not THE most important figure) in the queer hip-hop movement.




"Save Our Souls" - Garçon Garçon

I try to support queer acts as much as I can, and Garçon Garçon is an act that I discovered this year that I have really loved. Their EP is fantastic, but in my opinion, the stand-out track is "Save Our Souls." The production is sickening, especially with a good set of headphones, and the lyrics/message are beautiful. These guys are an act that you should definitely check out.




"Looking Hot" - No Doubt

While the album may have been a bit of a disappointment, there are 4 clear stand-outs from 'Push & Shove' (2 of which have made my list). The first to make the list is "Looking Hot," which, like the other song in my Top 25, masterfully combined the sounds of 'Tragic Kingdom,' 'Return of Saturn,' 'Rock Steady,' and Gwen's solo stuff. The chorus is ridiculously catchy and the video, however controversial as it may have been, was great. Also: any song that can get away with the line "Go ahead and stare at my ragamuffin" is an automatic win.
