So, I have always regarded ATRL as a generally open-minded place, but posts I have read over the previous few weeks have made me change my mind.

For some reason, I have come across so many transphobic posts (posts against transgender people). This has shocked me, as I am sure most ATRLers are gay, so I don't know why some people don't seem to care about the 'T' in 'LGBT'.

Is it that some gay people do not understand transgenderism? Or is it that gay people look down on them? Or what?

I agree fully to be honest. Being such a small part of the Gay community we're ignored or criticized for it a lot of the times. For some reason we're not as welcomed as the others, its truly hurtful sometimes.

This is just my thoughts and they may be wrong and I'm admitting that but I think for SOME gays they do not like that transgendered people can go from being gay to straight- like a male who likes males can become a woman who likes males and therefore straight or a female who likes females can become a man who likes females and therefore straight. This ISN'T the only reason though, just one of them possibly.

i think most of the ATRL population is under 20 and they probably have never met a transgendered person before. When you've never met someone who identifies as such, it's much easier to be disrespectful and dismissive.

Regardless, transgendered people are unequivocally deserving of all of our respect and admiration for theirs is a truly heavy cross to bear.

I understand that's a thought of yours, but why should that matter? Why should it bother you whether someone can become a woman and therefore be deemed as "straight"?

I have a FTM friend, and I think he's incredible. It doesn't matter whether or not he calls himself straight because he's dating a girl or a lesbian because he used to be one, the fact is he's a good person.

It's so sad to hear about discrimination in the gay community, but it happens more often than you think.

It's absolutely hypocritical for a homosexual to criticize a transsexual/transgender person, considering that other people discriminate against them for the exact same thing.

I think a lot of times people can have a hard time figuring out the difference between: Transexual, Gender Queers/Gender *****. and Drag Queens.

I don't know if you got what I was saying, I don't think that, I have no problem with transgendered people at all. Going on my previous thought, gays obviously have a difficult time because of their orientation. Transgendered people have the ability to get around that by changing their gender and becoming "straight" (although not all the time, there are gay transmen and lesbian transwomen) and they don't have to seemingly deal with homophobia anymore. So they can escape having to deal with prejudice of being gay because now they're a different gender and straight. I think some gay people resent them for that. I could be wrong

I don't understand transgenderism. Does if have a biological basis or not? I don't think I'll ever will. But everyone deserves respect so, shrugs.

But, I don't get drag queens and stuff they scare me. I feel like they weren't accepted as a child so they feel the need to do it. Then there's transexuals who are just like every other person, that's a diff story. But drag queens scare me
