'The Hills' Ending Shocks Fans: Was the Show Fake All Along?
Anyone expecting the long-running MTV reality-based drama "The Hills" to go out with a whimper got a surprise last night when it ended with a confounding bang. Fans were gobsmacked by the final scene, which seemed to suggest that the entire "reality" series was as fictional as a Pixar movie.
In the final scene, star Kristin Cavallari is shown on the street saying goodbye to former love Brody Jenner. Cavallari has decided to go to Europe to "find herself." The two bid farewell, and the audience is treated to a montage of scenes from the entire series set to a remix of the show's theme song, "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield.
Then, Cavallari gets into the back of a black sedan that is presumably headed for the airport. Jenner watches mournfully as the car drives off into the distance. But then the camera pans out to reveal a fake, Hollywood backdrop (as an MTV.com article describes it). As the background slips away, it appears as though at least some of the final scene has taken place not on a Los Angeles street corner, but on a studio set.
As camera operators and other production staff begin breaking down the set, Cavallari gets out of the sedan and into the arms of a waiting Jenner. She was never going to the airport. The entire scene was fake, and the status of the couple's relationship, if it ever even existed, is now up in the air, along with the rest of the show's plotlines.
Oh Dear God
The first time I saw laguna Beach i thought it was a complete fake show, but everybody got me fooled and with The Hills i thought it was for real
