Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance becomes one of the UK’s biggest selling singles of all-time.
Congratulations to Lady Gaga who today claims the second million selling single of her career!
The US star is currently battling it out with Ellie Goulding in the race to this week’s Official Number 1 single with her comeback track Applause, but regardless of what happens on Sunday’s final chart, the champagne corks will be popping in the Haus Of Gaga this weekend, as sales of her 2009 hit Bad Romance have crossed over the million copies sales barrier in the last 24 hours.
Walk, walk, fashion baby…
Clad in a pair of Alexander McQueen’s death-defying ‘lobster claw’ uber heels, Gaga strutted all the way to the top of the Official Singles Chart with Bad Romance in December 2009, before being bizarrely knocked off a week later by Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In The Name - the result of perhaps the greatest Christmas Number 1 races of all time! However, two weeks later Gaga pawed her way back to pop’s throne, reclaiming the top spot once again and the first Number 1 of 2010.
Bad Romance now joins Gaga’s previous million seller, Poker Face, as one of the UK’s biggest selling singles of all-time. Taken from The Fame Monster, Bad Romance is only the 138th track to sell over a million copies in British history, and the twelfth single to reach this milestone this year. It follows Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines FT TI and Pharrell Williams which crossed over the million mark last month.
Sir Elton John’s double A-side, Something About The Way You Look Tonight / Candle In The Wind '97, remains the UK’s biggest selling single of all-time. It has clocked up nearly 5 million sales since its release sixteen years ago this month.
The Sweet Sixteen
Lady Gaga is only the sixteenth artist ever to achieve more than one million selling single in the UK.
Sir Paul McCartney has nine to his name, spread across his work with The Beatles (six), Band Aid (two) and Wings (one). While Rihanna has appeared on three (2010’s Only Girl (In The World) and Love The Way You Lie with Eminem, and 2011’s We Found Love with Calvin Harris), as has Holly Johnson (Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Relax and Two Tribes, and the original Band Aid single).

So she's second only to Rihanna and her 3 million-selling singles (We Found Love, Love the Way You Lie, and Only Girl) among the major pop girls. SLAY, Lady Gaga
That's great news for her!
BR is a masterpiece and in my top 20 songs of all time It'll be hard to top it (even though Bloody Mary already kinda did it for me)
