The early '80s were a time of great change in the music industry. The emergence of the MTV era, the death of disco and rise in electronic music. New wave, hip-hop and all the splinter sects of the old disco sound came forward to fill these new vacancies. As technology marched on so did music, and so did discussion of music.
The Pazz & Jop critics lists emerged in the '70s and consolidates critical opinions from all areas into a singular list. The "This Was..." rate series shows off the critically acclaimed albums of the years, but this series is instead focused on singles. These years may predate the birth of most of us but the impact and quality of the songs lives on through the years.

Tbqh, apart from a certain song about masturbation (which will get nothing higher than a 2) and that Van Halen mess I'm gonna have a hard time. I love all of these songs
I just made me a nice playlist (including all the Prince singles, natch), and I noticed that Lennon's "Woman" and "Watching the Wheels" were not included. May I ask why? Like, WHY????

I couldn't find them on the P&J lists, but maybe I'm going blind?
