For example, this thread is the third highest upvoted thread on Reddit. Reddit is mostly straight males. Not typically Mariah's fan base, yet they're defending her and blaming the tech?
Reddit is not the GP. The actual GP is dragging her or feeling secondhand embarrassment for her. Check facebook a more reliable source when it comes to the GP.

Facebook is all 50 year old cat moms who don't understand how the world works. Reddit is a more accurate cross section, especially a default subreddit like Advice Animals

There isn't really a way to handle it well though. Her options are:
Sing (won't match the music) and look like an idiot.
Do what she did and say that there's nothing coming out of the monitors, and look like an idiot.

She followed the rule book - keep smiling, try to get the crowd more involved. Unfortunately it didn't help much. It was probably something as stupid as the batteries dying in her in-ear monitors at which point the only thing you can do surrounded by 100,000 people making noise is to tell the techs to stop the music and do it acapella.

The crew. They should have stopped and started over. You can tell she was tryin to find a part to jump in at but she couldn't figure it out.
This isnt her fault.

The unfortunate reality is that a large number of live TV events lip-sync now because it's easier than trying to deal with dumping audio buffers since so many are worried about a "bad word" going over the air. Often it's the networks requiring it vs the artists choosing to do so. The Super Bowl is a big one too -- The networks are requiring large portions of the Halftime show to be lip synced so there is less chance of broadcasting a profane word and dealing with the fines....
You want to blame someone for lipsyncing on national TV, blame the Parents Television Council and similar groups for deciding that everything that doesn't fit their views is wrong and should never be broadcast.
I'm not defending what is happening, but often it's not the performers' choice (other than to turn down the show when being required to lip-sync but if they want the money for doing the show that badly they'll lip-sync and hope there aren't consequences later)

Facebook is on its way to being as crazy as reddit users so I wouldn't go that far
