”FourFiveSeconds” reviews thread.
Forbes
Quote:
The track is not only a shocker in the surprising manner in which she announced it—a tweet that simply said “FIRST GLIMPSE AT MY NEW MUSIC!!!”—but in its style. Musically, “Four Five Seconds” is a complete departure for both Rihanna and Kanye West, though it does fit McCartney’s style. A simple, pared-down guitar track, the song puts the spotlight on Rihanna’s vocals, highlighting them in a way that her club-ready, bombastic tunes don’t usually.

Paul McCartney supplies some gentle acoustic strumming as West and Rihanna belt out a deeply personal, hugely melodic, and country-tinged tune about heartbreak and redemption. It’s only the second new Kanye song we’ve heard, but it’s worth noting that it shares a few traits with “Only One”—sensitive, confessional songwriting, sparse and acoustic instrumentation, and not a drum beat in sight.

The track she was referring to was her new single, ‘Four-Five Seconds,’ a bare bones, acoustic track featuring Kanye West and The Beatles member Paul McCartney
With no backing beat or other instruments other than McCartney strumming some chord progressions on the guitar, it’s arguably Rihanna’s most minimalist work to date.

The song, off her forthcoming eighth studio album, is a departure from 2012's Unaplogetic. A plucky acoustic guitar complements Rihanna's vocals. "I think I've had enough/ Might get a little drunk/ I say what's on my mind/ I might do a little time," she sings on the opening lines of the track. "Cause all of my kindness/ Is taken for weakness."
For Kanye's part, he sings, "Woke up an optimist/ Sun was shining, I'm positive/ Then I heard you was talking trash/ Hold me back/ I'm about to spazz."
Later, on the chorus, Kanye and Rihanna harmonize together, "Now I'm four, five seconds from wildin'/ And we got three more days 'till Friday/ I'm just tyring to make it back home by Monday morning."

We’ve been clamoring for new music from Rihanna for months now and it’s finally here! The song is as different from her standard fare as “Only One” was from the rest of Kanye’s canon—there’s acoustic guitar and gosepl-infused choruses, but there’s still typical carefree, optimistic vibes. Plus, just like “Only One,” autotune is plentiful.
When that organ hits in the middle of the song, and you realize that it’s probably Paul McCartney playing, it’s kind of an incredible feeling right?

I think I've had enough," sings Rihanna over the percussion-less, acoustic guitar-driven track. "I might get a little drunk / I say what's on my mind / I might do a little time / 'Cause all of my kindness is taken for weakness." West takes over on vocals, crooning, "Woke up an optimist/ Sun was shining, I'm positive/ Then I heard you was talkin' trash / Hold me back, I'm bout to spaz." West and Rihanna handle all of the song's vocals, duetting on the chorus with McCartney providing keyboards on the song.

In a bold statement to the masses, along with Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Kanye West hit big with the new debut, “FourFiveSeconds.”
There are various ways to perceive the lyrics. Many say it’s just a “drink and relax” type of song. Surely, it has a mellow, relaxing vibe all its own. Likewise, some say it’s just feel-good music.
Though the song is mellow and smooth, Rihanna and Kanye West’s lyrics might indicate or suggest some type of slight confrontation. What kind? With whom? Who is testing them by taking their kindness for weakness?
The song’s traffic has been crashing websites all day. Like his wife, Kim Kardashian, it seems like Kanye West can also “break the internet.”

I knew it would be overrated to the high heavens as soon as I saw Kanye West and Paul McCartney attached to it

Paul could play the same chords for the whole song and Kanye could autotune ahhhhh over the whole song and Rihanna could fart the vocals and critics would still like it simply because it has Kanye and Paul together on it.
That said the song is ok but surely every artist featured on the song can do better.

If they do, it'll be because of Kanye. They stan more for Rihanna's traditional pop songs

They are not overrating it... They are not freaking out about it or anything. Just saying that it's a good song, different for Rihanna, different for Kanye and at the same time good and enjoyable.
Where is the overrating to high heavens ?

If it's not the same as their opinion it means it's overrated.
This shows that they didn't even read the reviews and just jumped on conclusions.
That's how ATRL works.

Stop using the word pressed for everyone who says something critical.
In case you haven't noticed I love Kanye so why would I be pressed at the reviews?
I just said that the critics' opinion on this was already formed when Kanye and Paul worked on a track together regardless off the quality of the output.
