He's alt-pop, though his albums have progressively gone less alt and more pop. He writes and produces his own material, has an amazing singing voice, and is crazy inventive. And he has regular meltdowns so he's pretty entertaining.
I hope he makes it big, but it is starting to look like it will never happen.

From his last album:
I was listening to Lupercalia just yesterday. 'The City' should have ****in' BLOWN UP. Uplifting, catchy, just brilliant.

This thread is a great idea, I've got more male artists than female on my iTunes, but I never get to share my love for them. Next up, Hugh Sheridan.
I also love Avicii, Chase & Status, SBTRKT, Drake, Kanye, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, and a countless number of other K-pop and J-pop boybands and various other male artists.
