MusicIsGoodForYou's Best of 2009 Thread! Singles 30-21!!
Welcome to the start of my best singles of 2009! For the selections, I took into account time on my playlist, how much I used to like the song, and how much I like the song now. Here's #'s 30-21!
Top 30 Singles of 2009:
30. John Mayer - Who Says
Who Says is nice stripped-down ode from John Mayer to people that want to do whatever they want. Who Says may not match Waiting on the World to Change or No Such Thing, but it's a great first single nonetheless!
29. Ryan Star - Right Now
With Right Now, Ryan Star delivers a powerful rock anthem, about being strong and taking control of your situation not yesterday, not tomorrow, but now. I'm sure all of you don't know any of Ryan's music, so I suggest you check it out!
28. Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You
What a Pop song My Life Would Suck Without You is! It's fast, synthed out, and about love! What more could a Pop fan want? Even though it doesn't live up to the Breakaway era, My Life Would Suck Without You is easily one of the better fast-tempo songs from Kelly Clarkson's latest album.
27. David Cook - Come Back to Me
Even though I'm only a teenager, I love Adult Pop music. And even though Come Back to me didn't match the success of Light On, it is still a great ballad about loving someone you can't be near. I'm looking forward to David's next album, whenever it comes out!
26. Flo Rida - Be On You (feat. Ne-Yo)
Being one of the lighter, more R&B-ish songs from Flo Rida's latest effort, Be On You is a great summer jam for two lovers. Stargate provides a beautiful production, and Ne-Yo's hook is great too!
25. The All-American Rejects - Gives You Hell
Gives You Hell is a great in your face tune, with poppy melodies and a funny music video to accompany it. There must have been a lot of break-ups in 2009, as this is the All-American Rejects' most successful song to date, and I applaud that!
24. Kanye West - Heartless
No matter how big of an asshole you think Kanye West is, you cannot deny the pop gem that is Heartless. On this 808 & sythed-out jam, Kanye sings his sorrows to a woman that's heartless. Ironically, Kanye ended up being the heartless one by interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs and thus losing the hearts of most of America. And if you haven't checked out a live performance of this song, IMMEDIATELY CHECK ONE OUT!!! Especially the VH1 Storytellers version!
23. Eminem - Beautiful
Beautiful is arguably the most emotional rap song of 2009. It features very touching and clever lyrics, delving into inspirational topics and displaying some of Marshall's most depressing moments. Beautiful also uses a great sample (Reaching Out performed by Queen + Paul Rodgers) to fit the song, and has great production, courtesy of Jeff Bass. Even though it's so low on my countdown, this song is possibly my favorite song from Eminem, and definitely my favorite song off of Relapse.
22. Drake - Successful (feat. Trey Songz & Lil Wayne)
As the title suggests, Drake is living a very successful life. On this song, his rhymes are boastful of the good life and of being the best. However, along with the hook from Trey Songz, Drizzy keeps the song soulful and much more somber than most of his other material.
21. Green Day - 21 Guns
21 Guns is a great stripped down anthem/ballad from Green Day about giving up the fight. IMO, it's the most American Idiot-like song off of 21st Century Breakdown, and that's not a bad thing at all. And if you love Green Day, definitely check out the American Idiot musical version of 21 Guns. It has a little more emotion but much less Billie Joe than the original version. BTW, 21 Guns being #21 is merely a coincidence lol!
That's it for today. Hope you all appreciate the songs I selected! Come back tomorrow for singles 20-14! Until then, see ya!
