Is Céline the only 90s diva that hasn't tarnished her legacy
Let's face it - plenty of other 90's divas have tarnished their legacies majorly in recent years.
From making a fool of themselves on national television, being in denial of their current abilities, or trying desperately and failing to keep up with the "cool kids", the GP doesn't really have much respect for the legacies of many of the 1990s biggest divas.
And yet here is Céline Dion, who, in 2016, is perhaps more respected than ever by the GP. Her legacy of tact, classiness, and of course talent remains intact, and she has become an idol to many women around the globe for her strength and courage. She remains successful and stable despite not having to resort to desperate last resorts, fads, and attention seeking antics.
Celine has a lane that works for her, she occasionally tries out new sonic flourishes but never really strays too far from her brand. She stays classy, seriously worked her ass off to attain the status she enjoys, has never had a scandal and there are never diva stories about her in the press, and she's maintained her voice. A living example that you can reach the top and remain kind and humble, appreciative and hard-working.
She doesn't really have a "legacy" to tarnish, but I see what you're saying. She's stayed very successful doing what she's always done. It's easier to fall when you're pushing boundaries.
you clearly weren't around to hear the "why don't they build a kayak?" line.
It was probably one of the first instances of a celebrity's words turning into a meme, but it was long before Tumblr existed. People made fun of Celine a LOT after that.
Celine has also been called out a lot for secretly lip-synching during her Vegas shows.
Yes, Celine is legendary and has done nothing to taint that status. Madonna has done a lot of embarassing things that sadly have made some people lose respect for her. Of course she'll always be revered as a pioneer for women in pop music and no one will ever take her crown as the best selling female of all time, but her reputation with the general public these days isn't too sweet.

Passionately, emotionally, and angrily speaking out for the victims of Hurricane Katrina who were quite literally dying because of the government's lack of rescue effort isn't exactly "legacy tarnishing". I still don't understand why she was so ridiculed for that.

i really like her as a person and she has a massive, perfect singing voice of course (that i´m not too fond of tho tbh), but i´ve Always found her so boring tbh, and her songs does nothing to me. except all by myself maybe. so she´s in a very safe lane
She's a main female pop act, don't get me wrong, but when I think of Celine Dion I don't think of anything legendary. She was big with MHWGO and BYLM but other than that she hasn't made a lasting presence in the industry.

Neither do I. Celine Dion is one of my favorites because she has such a kind heart, but I guess Americans considered her a "foolish Canadian" who didn't know what she was talking about. You know how they are. When a disaster strikes America, it has to be the biggest calamity ever and no one but a fellow American can understand their pain, even though the rest of the world has been though a million times worse
It also came on the heels following Kanye's "George Bush doesn't care about black people" comment.
It was also kind of silly thinking a blow up raft was going to save New Orleans, but still. At least she suggested solutions.
But no, my point is, if you are a fan and supporter of Celine like I am, you would know she doesn't have an untarnished legacy. She has been made fun of, she has been considered uncool, for a long time being a Vegas headliners was uncool BECAUSE Celine was associated with it even though there were other legends like Rod Stewart doing the same thing, so she has faced double standards and discrimination before. But she always got through it with class, just like Britney
