I don't understand. People are literally fuming at the fact that members haven't heard of some rock artists. Now, I know they must be pretty big but rock fans need to consider that not everybody grew up listening to rock. TBH, I'm gonna get dragged for saying this but I only know who Radiohead are because they dragged Miley Cyrus. Please bare in mind that I was born in 1998 and my parents played African, gospel and R&B jams when I grew up. I'm not interested in rock music or bands, I've never been exposed to rock music ever thus me not knowing any of these rock legends. I could name some R&B artists you rock fans probably don't know. And if you didn't know, I wouldn't freak out or anything. Because I understand. There's loads of factors to consider:
- how old you are
- where you grew up
- what music you were exposed to
- what's your music genre preferences

And so on.
So may I ask why rock fans fume at the idea of someone never hearing of someone? How can I do research on someone I've never heard of? Thanks.

Why do pop fans get so angry when everybody says the majority of pop music is basic, uninspired trash and so are its artists? It's the same thing darling, Rock stans aren't the only pretentious ones


Oh and to the question, they get defensive because rock music is the most iconic genre with the most remembered artists/bands and if you call yourself a music fan yet don't know the basics of the rock genre then you look stupid.

Because a lot of these rock music acts shaped the way music is today. Why do you think people are so mad that people don't know any Bowie songs?

It's the same reaction to everything no? When you don't know basic things expect to get laughed at.

For Sam Smith not to know who Thom Yorke is truly embarrassing, because he is an "artist".

But you can't get mad that this generation wasn't exposed to his music. What year was his peak? I don't know much Bowie songs either but that doesn't mean I don't respect his artistry and what he's done for music.

Not knowing Tom Yorke isn't something to laugh at. If you don't know artists like Michael Jackson (who appealed to a huge audience -- black, white, young, old etc) IMO then, you can laugh.

I don't know any either. I only know 3 rock groups Coldplay, Maroon 5 & Kings of Leon (thanks to Beyoncé). I grew up in a majority black city and none of the people I know use rock groups. R&B/Hip-Hop is the most popular. If I were to try and play some Rock music around my people they would tell me to cut that **** off

okay but are all rock fans born in the 70s and 80s? And I'm not judging anyone I'm just playing devil's advocate -- it's someone's own fault if they don't branch out and discover that music that revolutionized the industry, instead of only listening to today's hits.
