So, this is what's being considered "R&B" in the UK?

So basically it's R&B because he's African-American?

This reminds me of the CD section of bestbuy where all black artists are put into R&B, even if the music is anything but.

Yeah, that chart is a joke, even more than Billboard's. Scream & Shout went #1 there.

^ No, they don't put all black people in there. There's lots of black people that get put in the dance chart. Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Usher, Ludacris and others have had songs go into the dance chart before rather than the R&B chart.
I don't know how they decide what goes where. It's so inconsistent. The Time by the Black Eyed Peas was put in the dance chart too iirc, they don't put all of will.i.am's stuff in there.
But they haven't included Blurred Lines in the R&B chart, it would be #1 now if it was. Jessie J's song Wild is also more appropriate for this chart, but they haven't included it.

No matter how technical you get, that chart is a mess. 90% of the songs there don't even contain any R&B elements. They basically slap the R&B label on any song that's by any black artist. And one white person on the chart doesn't change that.

They don't though. We Found Love, Beautiful People, Sweat, The Time, Right Now, and lots of other songs got put in the dance chart NOT the R&B chart.
Black people don't get automatically put in the R&B chart, which is what makes it more confusing. I can't understand why some go in the dance chart (like they should) but others don't.
Even with the same artist they change it. S&M was put in the R&B chart, Where Have You Been was put in the dance chart, Only Girl was put in neither chart. I've never been able to work out what their pattern is. That's why I think these charts (and anything to do with genre classifications in UK) are useless.

The UK's Official Charts Company and Billboard define R&B as "Racially-mixed and Black" in the UK, as opposed to a particular sound. If the artist is mixed race or Black, or the song sounds typical of music produced by mixed race and Black people, it registers on this chart.
They were going to get rid of the chart, or revise the rules, but I personally think it's great because of the exposure it gives people who look like me.

But why are a lot of songs by black people not included in the chart then? There's a lot of songs by "racially-mixed and black" people not charting there. For example Blackout by Wretch 32 they put in the dance chart, and he's black.

You've overlooked the rules when there are other non-mixed race or non-black artists on a track. They take the genre of the featured artists and weigh it against the main artist's - if it has enough weighting, it can change the genre that particular song has. They then also take context into consideration too.

I'm not getting technical. As I said, any song, any genre, by a black artist is eligible to chart on the R&B charts. Explain how Bang Bang, Scream & Shout, The Other Side, Live It Up, and other pop songs chart on the R&B chart.
I don't care if a couple of white people are on the chart. Or if a couple of songs by a black artist aren't on the chart. It is random songs, most particular POP songs on an R&B chart. Explain why that's so.

The label probably requested it chart there.
Label requests >>> automated system
Anyways I guess most artists just don't know they're charting as R&B - like will.i.am definitely would prefer to chart under "pop" because he made an effort to move under to the pop genre on iTunes and Amazon.

R&B in the UK has a different meaning to R&B in the US.
