It's basically just an excuse from the Little Monsters used to justify her success.
It's true that she doesn't have the the BEST vocal range out there, but anyone with common sense could tell that she is not basic just by looking at her performances/effort put in videos.
Because she is. All her songs are generic and nothing out of the box.

Because she is? Like it's one of those things that don't need to be elaborated. She makes basic music with a basic image and basic videos. Enough. She caters to the lowest common denominator in order to please everyone. Let's stop acting like she's anything more than that.
because her music is closer to pure pop than lady gaga's. which isn't a fair comparison at all considering lady gaga does more genre hopping than most pop stars. she's not even basic, she just makes a different type of music and has a different kind of image than gaga, and that's who everyone compares her to ever since roar vs applause.

It does. She is the least experimental out of Rihanna, Xtina, Britney etc etc. She goes down the Pop/Rock route. She literally only has ONE Urban (If it can be called that) song while Rihanna and Xtina have released R&B, Soul, Rock, Pop, Electro-Pop etc songs.
