A married father of three from Georgia has allegedly admitted to slashing the throat of his 12-year-old special-needs son before trying to take his own life in an attempted murder-suicide.
Police in Lilburn said Fikri Erdem, a 47-year-old native of Turkey, called 911 just after 9pm Monday saying he could not breathe.
Officers who responded to the parking lot of First Baptist Church on Main Street discovered Erdem's 12-year-old son, Hakan, dead inside a white pickup truck.

The 47-year-old was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he was listed Tuesday in guarded condition.
According to an article published by the news site Lilburn-Mountain Park Patch, in 2011 the Erdem family's house burned down as a result of a lightning strike.
Fikri Erdem revealed at the time that his son Hakan, then eight years old, had cerebral palsy and could not walk or talk.
The father recounted for Patch how he picked up the boy and carried him out of the burning house to safety.
