"Katy was mere footnote in her own halftime show" - STL
Quote:
Mega pop star Katy Perry was a mere footnote in her own Super Bowl XLIX halftime performance during Sunday night’s big game.
But the spectacle, and it was a total spectacle, only seemed to amount to something when the focus wasn’t on Perry herself.
Everything around her looked more interesting than Perry herself, and keeping your eyes on her wasn’t a must. That would be the case the rest of the set, during which Perry was a singing prop who got overshadowed by her special guests and the swiftly-changing, complicated and colorful production.
Kravitz joined Perry for “I Kissed a Girl,” with Perry bumping and grinding and on her knees in a distinctly unsexy manner.
An airborne “Firework” sent Perry sailing off into the sky, complete with shooting sparks behind her as if propelling her toward the stars.
Too bad she wasn’t able to generate any real sparks of her own.
Not a lie spotted. While the show was great, it wasn't due to Katy. It was the machine. How could somebody not put on a great show with all that going on
Why are people hating so hard? Anyone even slightly familiar with Katy knows that she isn't a dancer and doesn't have the greatest stage presence. Were people expecting MJ? Considering her abilities, her performance was great. Not many pop stars could have done better
