A functional cure does exist.
DNA PCR and viral load tests become positive by 4 weeks. Antibody tests within 4-12 weeks. Everyone knows that.
However, your body starts to produce IgM following infection, can be detected and therefore prove to a clinical nurse that you're in need of post-exposure prophylaxis. If you've been infected you can take this medication and later test negative*.
When a condom breaks while a person with HIV has unprotected sex with an HIV-negative person in a single incidence, or in the case of unprotected sex with an anonymous partner, or in the case of a non-habitual incident of sharing a syringe for injection drug use, visit a hospital or HIV clinic and take PEP in 72 hours to lessen the chance of testing positive for IgG.
*You'll then need to be tested again. IgM is the body's first stage of fighting the infection and IgG is the second. Don't wait.
