I bet you all didn't think I was going to do a countdown this year. Well sorry to disappoint but youre gonna have to read another big ass year end thread. I'll start with songs, then TV, then albums, and last but not least movies, Enjoy, or don't, I don't really care.
Alright so this song list will be in three parts. It was put together hastily, and I may have forgotten some things. Only requirement for a song to make it on is that it was on an album released in 2009.
25. Dragon Queen - Yeah Yeah Yeah
-It's Blitz is really fantastic. More on that when I do the albums list. Dragon Queen stands out for it's wildness and general trippy attitude. It's like taking acid with the Beatles.
24. Not Fair - Lily Allen
-A good ole fashion anthem about a man not being able to please his woman. Make her scream damnit.
23. Breathe - The Flaming Lips
-It isn't that The Flaming Lips album of original material that came out last year did not have any songs worth making it. But their version of Dark side of the moon is brilliant and terrifying at the same time. Breathe kicks thing off right as it always does.
22. Kinda Like A Big Deal - Clipse and Kanye West
-Coming out back in the fall or summer, I don't even remember, but it was way before the album actually came back. I nearly forgot about how great this song is with such a wide gap.
21. This Will Be The Death Of Us - Set Your Goals
-The dual vocals works splendidly here as each man adds his own signature on this high power punk pop track. This band is really worth checking out if you like that sort of thing.
More for your money. No more color though as that was a bad idea. I'll try to get a reply in on all my viewers countdowns later, to prove I'm not reply stingy.
20. Ulysses - Franz Ferdinand
-Not the best work ever put out by Franz, but this new album was pretty great nonetheless. I wasn't all that hot on the lead single at first, but as you can see it became my favorite song on the album.
19. Hey You - 311
-Recovering from the dreadful Don't Tread On Me 311 was back with a tapeworm this year. Uplifter is right up there with Evolver.
18. Undisclosed Desires - Muse
-Muse piss me off. How are they gonna get so popular that they can sell out Madison square garden two months in advance and not let me see them play with silversun pickups? Major weak sauce.
17. I'm On A Boat - The Lonely Island and T-Pain
-Not initially my favorite song on the outstanding Incredibad, but the music video made sure it stuck around all year, making me love it more and more.
16. Crying Lighting - Arctic Monkeys
-The new Monkeys went rather dark with this new album. I'm not complaining, just keep the new music coming. These guys are the best in the department of never making you have to wait too long for new material.
And I'm done, so will have to expand my previous estimate on how long ill finish
I love how I can never sleep at this time of year.
15. Ain't No Rest For The Wicked - Cage The Elephant
-The lyrics speak the truth, and they're pretty funny if you actually listen to them.
14. Ignorance - Paramore
-At last, some attitude. I've heard it in the lyrics before, but never in the music.
13. Cozza Frenzy - Bassnectar
-Not that I would ever condone smoking marijuana, but if you ever find yourself in a situation where you're cruising down the highway with a blunt in your hand this is the song you want to have on.
12. I'm Made of Wax Larry, What Are You Made Of? - A Day To Remember
-I've now met only two people that like this band. should i just give up trying to promote them?
11. Bone House - The Dead Weather
-Jack White has risen to deity status in the musical world. I'm expecting his suicide any day now.
-At this point in the CD Eminem has attempted to quit every drug that he has been too. Enter Dr. Dre who convinces him to start up on the Ganja. He is a doctor after all, I'd listen to him.
4. Uprising - Muse
-I do love Muse, though The Resistance definitely draws comparisons to Minutes To Midnight. I eventually ended up loving that album, so I hope the same happens here.
3. New Divide - Linkin Park
-Speaking of Linkin Park, here they are with their only new song released this year for the Transformers 2 soundtrack. This song ended up being much better than the movie. I wish their little breakdown near the end of the song lasted a bit longer though.
2. Zero - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
-Was very hard to choose between this and my number 1 song of the year. Yeah Yeah Yeahs owned the year anyways, so one #2 is not gonna leave a mark.
Alright time for #1. Past years #1s include Linkin Park (Faint), Beastie Boys (Ch-Check It Out), My Chemical Romance (Helena), The Killers (When You Were Young), Dragonforce (Through The Fire And Flames), and Metallica (All Nightmare Long). Joining the list is ....
Wait for it....
1. Panic Switch - Silversun Pickups
-The #1s for the past few years have a few things in common. A long, overblown intro - check. Atleast one amazing guitar solo - check. And really the bands are just jamming their hearts out as a cohesive unit - check. Panic Switch fills all these molds. I really have no idea what the **** he is talking about in this song. I don't wanna know. The music tells the story that needs to be told.
