In all seriousness, I am puzzled why G.U.Y. flopped especially after that much talked about puke-involved performance. The music video is alright. The song is nice enough for the radio. And it's by Lady Gaga. What happened?
Simply because it was released by Lady Gaga. Her brand has sadly been tarnished.
If this was released by Rihanna or Katy, it will be a guaranteed top 10 smash.
If Gaga pre-BTW era released this, it would also be a smash hit. GUY has smash written all over it.

No shade, why did G.U.Y. flop?
You have the answer for your question.
To be honest, I think she can succeed with lead singles only, now.
I also think that the whole DWUW fiasco and Gaga going into a mini blackout in between the era for like 3 or 4 months also hurt ARTPOP a great deal.
If she had kept the momentum going by releasing GUY in January, it prolly would've done better. I mean if she knew that the DWUW wasn't going to come out. let's say by december, then she should've sent GUY to the radio in early Jan.
Gaga & her team wasted like 3 months by doing absolutely nothing, from like Dec - Feb/March, that also played a big factor in people losing interest in ARTPOP or just forgetting about it.
1. 3rd single
2. from a poorly received album both in commercial and critical terms
3. the video didn't fit the song and was badly directed
4. and most importantly gaga is no longer popular
