"Spotify may be poised to introduce time limits on the availability of certain music on its free service, in a bid to encourage users to upgrade to premium subscriptions."
...
"In 2013, Spotify’s global revenue rose 74%, but the streaming giant is still failing to turn a profit. Subscriptions are its main source of revenue, with more than 90% of revenue coming from the paying 22.2% of its user base."
tbh $10 a month ($5 for college students) isn't that much; if you listen to a lot of music it would definitely be worth it. And maybe this will mean they can pay artists more
It won't increase subscriptions. It'll just cause people to go elsewhere.
They need to just have big album releases exclusive to subscribers only for a couple months or so and that would be a better way to encourage more subscribers (though people will still find a way to listen to new music no matter what).
if this means that artists will be compensated more I'm fine with it. I mean, spotify is so cheap honestly, don't go eat fast food once a month and you can afford it....
