Last year was my first year taking part in the Best Of celebrations, and this
year I've decided to feature three categories instead of one.
The first of the three categories will be my Top 100 Songs for 2014. These
songs can be released from any time, as long as they made a big impact on
me in 2014 they will be included. I'll also be featuring a Bubbling Under
section that includes 10 songs that didn't quite make the list but still had a
significant impact in 2014.
The second of the three categories will be my Top 50 Albums for 2014. Again,
these albums don't necessarily have to have been released in 2014 to chart
in this section, but mostly 2014 albums will be making an appearance. Another
Bubbling Under section will be included for 10 albums that didn't quite make
the main list, but were still played frequently in 2014.
The final of the three categories will be my Top 50 Artists for 2014. This
is basically just a collection of all song and album data combined in order to
determine which artists grabbed my attention the most in 2014. There will also
be a Bubbling Under section for this category in order to give credit to the
other 10 artists who I listened to a lot in 2014.
Because I'm so late in starting this (I was on vacation!) I'm going to try to get through a few quick updates today!
I'll begin with the bubbling under Top 100 Songs:
Kesha's unreleased gem "Butterscotch" starts
the bubbling under countdown with a bang.
This song is a nice bop and is definitely one
of Kesha's strongest unreleased tracks,
possibly the most well-known to non-fans.
This live performance of some of Bonnie's
biggest penned hits is really something
special. Including songs such as Britney's
"Hold It Against Me", Kesha's "C'Mon" and
Katy's "Roar", it's nice how it all fits together.
Bridgit Mendler makes an appearance with
her 2012 ballad "Hold On For Dear Love".
This song really connected with me this
past year as I can relate to a lot of the
lyrics. This is not Bridgit's last appearance.
Kesha makes another appearance with her
hit single "Die Young". This song is just
such a timeless and infectious bop, even
if Kesha was forced to sing the chorus...
oh well, Luke knows how to make a bop.
Another pre-2014 song making the bubbling
under list is The Veronicas' 2008 single
"Popular". This song really got me hyped for
their self-titled studio release, as it was one
of my favourite songs of their older works.
Bridgit Mendler makes a return with her 2012
single "Hurricane". This song is definitely one
of my favourites from her debut album, which
I consider one of the strongest of 2012 as well.
There are still more Bridgit songs to come.
Kesha makes a return as well with another
one of her unreleased tracks, this time it's
"Shots On The Hood Of My Car", a long-
time fan favourite. I heard this song at a
friend's place and started stanning again!
Katy Perry stomps on the bubbling under
charts with her 2013 smash hit "Roar".
This song really is timeless, I can see it
being her signature hit in a few years,
officially dethroning "Firework".
Bonnie McKee makes a splash with her
original live recording "Right Now". First
performed on the Pulses Tour for Karmin,
Bonnie revealed this track as one of the
few on her upcoming visual EP.
Rita Ora debuts on the chart with her
moderate hit "I Will Never Let You Down".
Unfortunately for Rita, the drama
surrounding Calvin Harris was bigger than
the song itself. Oh well, it still bops!
Porcelain Black marches onto the countdown,
starting off #100 with her 2014 single "One
Woman Army". This RedOne produced bop
will sadly no longer be included on any album,
but it was still nice to hear in studio quality.
Best of 2013: P!nk f/ Nate Ruess - "Just Give Me A Reason"
Jeffree Star's track "Best. Night. Ever."
continues the first set of the Top 100.
This caught my attention again after
several songs off Jeffree's "Virginity"
EP surfaced online in 2014.
Next is a song that everyone knows,
the Frozen track first popularised by Adele Dazeem Idina Menzel, "Let
It Go". Demi's version was included on
the deluxe reissue of her album DEMI.
Willow Smith makes a mark with her 2011
single "Fireball" featuring rapper Nicki
Minaj. The release of Pitbull's song of the
same name actually sparked interest back
into this song, which actually got played more.
Best of 2013: Jessica Mauboy - "To The End Of The Earth"
Finishing this update is another of
Kesha's unreleased songs, this time the
party anthem "Lost Weekend". How this
didn't make one of her albums I'll never
know, it's the ultimate getaway jam.
Best of 2013: Skylar Grey f/ Eminem - "C'mon Let Me Ride"
