Ezra described the upcoming album as “darker and more organic” and “very much the last of a trilogy". The new album was recorded and co-produced by Ariel Rechtshaid in his New York studio (alongside Batmanglij).
Rostam mentioned that the third album is influenced by jazz, Bob Dylan and The Clash. ‘The goal was to use organic sounds and put them in a context that you might not have heard before. It’s certainly darker and grittier than Contra. A lot of these songs are about conflict. They’re about the choices we can make, being able to do what we want with our lives.’ (via NME)

It gets into the 50s and some of it sounds like jazz, but broken down into its most basic elements and played in a very simple way. It could've just meant that their 3rd LP is done and they don't want to give the name out yet?

It isn't called 'LP3. It's just the placeholder the band is using. They have the title already selected. I'm guessing they'll announce the final
title at SXSW.
