Primetime Ratings: 'X Factor' Falls 38% In Third-Season Premiere
Debut of new judges Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio topped by 'Big Brother'
Fox premiered the third season of singing competition show
The X Factor to a 2.1 rating with adults 18-49 on Wednesday, a drop of 38% from last year's premiere (which was two hours), according to Nielsen overnight numbers.
The one-hour premiere, which featured the debut of new judges Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio was topped head-to-head by CBS' Big Brother (2.2) and unlike last year, did not go against NBC's The Voice.
X Factor was also down 27% year-over-year in total viewers with 6.2 million.
Hitting a series low, The X-Factor’s first one-hour premiere also saw the show down 22% in fast nationals from its comparable hour of last year’s September 12, 2012 premiere. The previous low was 2.3 that the show got on November 8, 2012. In comparing premiere to premiere, the 8 PM – 9 PM hour of last year’s two-hour Season 2 debut drew a 2.7/9 in fast nationals, which went up to a 2.9/9 in the final numbers. Overall, the 8 PM – 10 PM start of X-Factor’s second cycle got a 3.3/10 in fast nationals that went up to a 3.4/10 in the finals.
Also, unlike last year, when X-Factor matched-up against the third episode of Season 3 of The Voice in the 8 PM slot, Season 3 of the Fox show had the much weaker The Million Second Quiz as its competition on NBC.
