(Resolution) How To Get Away With Murder: Case One
You wake up on a cruise ship with no idea how you got there. As you wander out of the cabins, you meet other passengers who appear to be in the same predicament as you. As much as you search, there are no means of communication with the outside world, nor an obvious route of escape leading up to higher levels of the ship. Needless to say, there is no exit to the ship in sight. A mysterious voice airs over the ship’s PA system with a grisly message:
“There is no help coming. If you wish to escape the ship, you have two options:”
1) Kill a fellow passenger without anyone else finding out you killed them
2) Survive until only two passengers remain
And with that… The killing game began.
How to Get Away with Murder
The Perfect Getaway!!
Welcome to How to Get Away With Murder, a tournament combining elements of Clue, The Mastermind, Mafia/Slasher, ATRL's Hunger Games, and Dangan Ronpa! In this game, players participate in battle of wits, trying to solve a series of closed-circle "whodunnits".
(Disclaimer: How To Get Away With Murder describes the game's objective, any affiliation with ABC's property is purely incidental.)
How Do I Win?
This game has two win conditions:
Outwit Devise a murder scenario and evade suspicion
Outlast Solve murder mysteries and make it to the final two players
Daily Life Gameplay
Day Phase
For 48 hours, you may:
- Search the ship for items that'll help you in the game
- Casually chat with players in the thread
- Play minigames for items that might help you win the game
Night Phase
For 48 hours, you may:
- Send in murder scenarios
- Explore the ship for helpful items
When a murder is successfully executed, the game shifts from the Daily Life phases of Night & Day to Deadly Life.
Deadly Life Gameplay
Investigation- After a murder occurs, investigation commences.
- All players receive an apparent cause of death and the location of discovery
- Players explore the ship as they please in search for evidence
- Every aspect of an area can be examined, search thoroughly
- The victim's body can also be examined
- PM me to interrogate other players for alibis and accounts. Just give me a name and your questions.
Evidence is gathered individually. If you wish to share your information publicly in the thread, you may. Multiple people can discover the same pieces of evidence.
Investigation continues until either all evidence relevant to the case is gathered once, or 48 hours passes from the start of the investigation period.
Trial
Similar to how other tournaments might have a judges' panel evaluate entries, during the Trial, the players themselves judge the murder scenario submission: Inadvertently, of course! In the trial, you'll be trying to pick out flaws, and uncover the truth behind the murder scenario.
After investigation concludes, a 72 hour trial period begins. Players present publicly any evidence they uncovered in the investigation. Accusations can be made, and questions asked.
In the last 24 hours of the trial, players may vote for who they think committed the crime by casting votes in our private google form (To be distributed later). Make sure you remember the password you enter for the form!
Majority vote determines the verdict.
Result
If majority vote correctly names the murderer, the murderer alone is eliminated, and the game continues to the next round with a Night Phase. If the wrong person is named, then the game ends with the true culprit crowned as the winner. Congratulations for getting away with murder!
Murder Scenario Submission
Proposal for a murder scenario should at least include a location, a target, and method of attack. From there, it could be as simple or as complicated as you wish. Moving bodies, disposing of evidence, and altering areas is all fair game. You're aiming to make a foolproof plan.
You must also have access to whatever elements you include in your scenario. For example, your target must be where you say they are. How you accomplish that is up to you. Deceit? Deduction? A lucky guess? Anything that gets the job done will work.
Moving around the ship
During all phases, you'll be moving around the ship. Either post in the thread with a message formatted in bold, or PM me with where you'd like to go to, and what you'll be doing there. I'll PM you back with what you discover there.
Action Points
Each phase you'll be allocated action points. Moving from area to area, examining objects, and interrogating suspects exhaust these points. When you run out of them, you can no longer carry out any actions.
Private Communication
In any phase outside of the Trial, players may communicate and share items via Private Communication. To initiate this, send me a PM detailing a recipient, a meeting location, and a message. I will forward your proposal for a private communication to your recipient and, if they accept, they will receive your message. Via Private Communication, you can show other players evidence, give or trade them items, or simply exchange messages.
This system helps me to keep track of who's working together, and who has what item/evidence. Try your best to adhere to it!
Please do not discuss any game-related info outside of the thread or this system. Failure to comply may result in your ejection from the game.
Rules
- Refrain from editing or deleting posts
- If you are dead, you can no longer post in the thread until the game's conclusion. There will be a special PM set up where dead players can discuss the happenings of the game among themselves
- A maximum of two murders can occur in any given phase
- No single passenger may kill more than two players
- In the case that multiple applicable murder scenarios are submitted, the host will pick the most interesting and/or challenging scenario, according to their discretion.
- Killers may enlist accomplices, but only the mastermind of the scenario is credited with the kill
- No game-influencing discussion outside of the thread or the game-related PMs I set up
- This game is an all-or-nothing, thought-intensive setup. Do NOT sign up if you feel you can't contribute to the best of your ability
- Have fun on your voyage!

Sounds like a really interesting concept! I don't think I'll have the time to sign up either, but I look forward to browsing the game as it progresses.
