The fact that they both became overtly sexual around the same time in the early 90s (well, overtly for Madonna, just plain sexual for Janet), introspective and spiritual in the late 90s, happy in the early 2000s, controversial in 2003/2004... it says a lot. They even released compilation albums in the same year

Let's face it: Madonna and Janet Jackson fans are blood brothers. You can't claim to be a Janet Jackson-hating Madonna stan and neither can you be a Madonna-despising Janet stan - it's just a bloody oxymoron.

And I love how they have NOT done a duet (like two other big female artists of the 90s ) because that would have just been tacky and gimmicky. They obviously respect each other but aren't determined to make it seem as if they're best friends - they don't even have a picture together!

And I know some Janet fans are reluctant to get into Madonna's discography. Trust me, it's amazing. She has some great carefree tunes which Janet really lacks. Janet's songs are so heavy sometimes.

Madonna didn't come out in '82. And they had totally different ways of expressing their sexuality through their work later on. They really are totally different artists, no matter how many parallels you draw.

I'm not a huge fan of Janet's music, but I can definitely appreciate what she accomplished, especially considering what she was born into.

You say it like the Jacksons were rich. Janet had to work her ass off and make a name for herself rather than depending on her more famous brother like some of the other Jacksons did.

Anyway I enjoy a lot of Janet's albums. She's a lot more forward thinking than most people give her credit for, in my opinion. I think the people on this site just think of the nipplegate incident and then they see people calling Janet "local" and then don't bother to listen to her.
