Discussion: Do you cheat on Last.fm?

I've seen some people on Last.fm where within the past 7 days, they heard an artist like over 2,000 times, which technically the only way they could do that is if they didn't sleep and didn't eat, didn't work and had no life.

I just looked at someone's Last.fm right now. 107,000+ Lady Gaga plays.

Like do you keep your iTunes (player) running on repeat for a specific artist and just walk away? Or do you prefer to keep them real?

Me, I keep 'em real. I would never cheat. All my plays are geniune. Heard them all. There was maybe 2 times where I forgot to pause my music and I went to work to find out a bunch of it was scrobbled by mistake.

There is a problem when you use the lastfm scrobbler on your iPod / iPhone. Each time you listen to a song, the scrobbler registers it as 6 songs or even more. That's probably why you have seen those problems in other lastfm accounts.

sometimes I mute my computer when I don't want to hear the song anymore and keep my iTunes running, playing the songs on mute.

There are artists/songs in my last.fm library that I'm ashamed of but I don't delete them.

Those extra thousand plays are probably from iPod or music player scrobbles. For some reason, last.fm has a glitch which does that. The "genuine plays" are recorded from the number of plays on your iTunes or your media player.

I don't think anyone would bother cheating their last.fm scrobbles so the song plays could reach thousands.

I would never do that. I do, however, delete trash when I accidentally let it scrobble.

Yeah. Like I heard a song on repeat that I really enjoyed and Last.fm had this bug that duplicated EVERY song (like 10 times) I heard after/before I listened to that one. I didn't bother with deleting the unwanted bug. But it usually only happens when I plug my iPod in, cause it's been fine now, I always listen to songs on repeat now and it seems to be fine.

No it doesn't.

That's how I scrobble my songs and I'm only at 40k plays in a year and 3 mons
