Yeah... Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't Japanese animation at all. You should give it another shot. Each episode is only around 25 minutes, and if you allow yourself to get into the story and actually care about the characters you might be surprised. Definitely look into it more because it seems you know very little about the show. (^_^)

It's not though (nor does it looks like so to me. looks like an imitation). It's one of many more recent western cartoons that attempt to imitate the imagry and/or storyline of Japanese anime. American animation like this is sometimes called by the nickname "Amerime" ("American anime.")
