Samuel's 25 Albums of 2015 | #10-6 Adele, Florence + more
WELCOME!
In previous years I've failed to complete my 'best of' lists (I couldn't be bothered & gave up) but this year I intend to count down, at the very least, my top 25 albums of the year.
2015 has been a year of quality music from a variety of genres, but I've particularly enjoyed the efforts from a number of mostly pop, but also a few country artists this year. Expect albums from a small variety of artists from a few different genres in this countdown.
I intend to start fairly soon, especially since I only have the rest of the month to finish the countdown.
Thanks & I appreciate anyone who posts/participates in my countdown this year.
PS if you post in here I'll follow/post in your rate

LITTLE BOOTS - WORKING GIRL
I found Working Girl to be a bit of a decline from Little Boots' brilliant sophomore album Nocturnes. It's not quite as upbeat or as full to the brim with masterfully-crafted electropop, but the disco queen's themed third album contains some great offerings nonetheless.
HIGHLIGHTS
"Working Girl"
"Real Girl"
"Better In the Morning"

MILEY CYRUS - MILEY CYRUS & HER
DEAD PETZ
Dead Petz is such a cluster**** of music, it's surprising it even managed to make my list at all. But despite the overall disjointedness of the album, and the existence of truly awful songs like "Dooo It!", I can't deny that there are quite a number of diamonds among the rough that grant this album its position of #24 on my list.
HIGHLIGHTS
"Karen Don't Be Sad"
"Space Boots"
"Pablow the Blowfish"

SARA BAREILLES - WHAT'S INSIDE:
SONGS FROM WAITRESS
Even as a longtime Sara Bareilles fan, I don't know much about her broadway adaption of Waitress besides the fact that she wrote the musical score and recorded her own album singing all of the songs, but I don't need to. What's Inside stands alone as a pleasant album full of feel-good musical numbers like "Opening Up" as well as emotional ballads, like the album's undeniable highlight "She Used to Be Mine".
HIGHLIGHTS
"Opening Up"
"You Matter to Me" f/ Jason Mraz
"She Used to Be Mine"

IVY LEVAN - NO GOOD
I'm surprised this girl doesn't have more hype on ATRL. Despite her lead single "Biscuit" making a few waves online, she remains largely unnoticed, but she's got the image, the talent and some pretty decent music to back it up. Her music and voice vaguely remind me of a modern, darker Christina Aguilera. I think you might've missed it, kiss her biscuit.
HIGHLIGHTS
"Biscuit"
"No Good"
"27 Club" w/ Diplo

REBA MCENTIRE - LOVE SOMEBODY
Reba McEntire's twenty-seventh (yes, twenty-seventh) album delivers just what fans of the country legend, like myself, are used to. Great, emotive storytelling, solid vocals, and better country music than the vast majority of the young stars nowadays. The fact that Reba's still releasing quality music at the age of 60 proves why she's still the Queen of Country. If you're a fan of the genre and somehow aren't familiar with Reba's brilliant catalogue, get into it!
HIGHLIGHTS
"Going Out Like That"
"Enough" f/ Jennifer Nettles
"I'll Go On"

I enjoy 3 of the 4 artists in the banner so I'm excited for this
Miley + Sara I'm fine with them being near the bottom of the list, though. Miley's album was experimental (and half messy) while Sara's was just Broadway songs, though it was actually better than expected.

PURITY RING - ANOTHER ETERNITY
Purity Ring deliver another great electronic album with their second release, Another Eternity. I must admit that I've only recently got into this album, despite it having been out for the majority of the year, but I've enjoyed it. The album gets off to a great start, the first three tracks are my favourites, but it falls slightly as it goes on. It's arguable as to whether or not this record lives up to their debut, Shrines, but it's for sure one of my favourites of the year from this particular genre.
HIGHLIGHTS
"Heartsigh"
"Bodyache"
"Push Pull"

SAY LOU LOU - LUCID DREAMING
I'd been anticipating this record for quite some time before its release; "Julian" made some waves a year or two ago, and I'd heard it and been impressed. The album's quite worth the wait, with a relatively accessible and mainstream approach to electropop, with its fair share of catchy tunes and deeper dream pop. I'd recommend this sister duo to anyone that bothers to read this!
HIGHLIGHTS
"Angels (Above Me)"
"Julian"
"Nothing But a Heartbeat"

MARINA & THE DIAMONDS - FROOT
As a huge fan of Marina's Family Jewels and Electra Heart albums, I have to say Froot was a slight disappointment. The album didn't strike me in the same way her previous offerings had, but Froot was, nonetheless, another sweet pop album. I may never enjoy songs like "Weeds" and "Solitaire", but no doubt I'll be singing "Happy", "Froot", "Blue", "I'm a Ruin" and more for years to come.
HIGHLIGHTS
"Happy"
"Froot"
"Blue"

SELENA GOMEZ - REVIVAL
My problem with Revival is the same as my problem with almost all of Selena Gomez's albums - the sheer amount of filler. If every song on Revival was as good as the singles and songs that'll no doubt end up as singles ("Good for You", "Me & the Rhythm", "Hands to Myself", etc.) this album would be much higher on my list. But mediocre, forgettable songs like "Kill Em With Kindness" and "Rise" bring what could've been an excellent pop album down to just a great one.
HIGHLIGHTS
"Hands to Myself"
"Sober"
"Me & the Rhythm"

JEWEL - PICKING UP THE PIECES
Jewel goes back to her roots on her twelfth album, Picking Up the Pieces. The album seems to combine her soft voice and excellent songwriting she's retained throughout her career with the simplistic production she delivered at the very start - not to mention giving a few country vibes here and there she's no doubt picked up after her attempts to break into the country scene.
HIGHLIGHTS
"Love Used to Be"
"His Pleasure Is My Pain"
"Plain Jane"
