Predicting where "Roar" might end up on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week -- and next week -- is a bit difficult.
The Hot 100 is based on airplay, sales and streaming data, and is compiled every Wednesday. Its airplay tracking week runs from Wednesday through Tuesday, while its sales and streaming tracking week runs from Monday through Sunday.
Based on its initial airplay, "Roar" will likely debut on this week's Hot 100 chart somewhere in the lower quarter of the chart. Then, next week, after its first week of sales and streaming have kicked in, it should jump into the upper reaches of the tally.
Its chart trajectory could mirror that of another recent superstar release: Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." The song debuted on the Aug. 25, 2012-dated Hot 100 at No. 72 from airplay only. The following week, once the song had its first week of sales under its belt, the song zoomed to No. 1.
