Is Katy Perry’s “E.T.” Video Better Than Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”?

Katy Perry has given Lady Gaga a run for her money with her latest music video. With some help from Kanye West, Katy brings an other-worldly dimension to the 5-minute long masterpiece for her latest single off Teenage Dream, “E.T.” Gaga is usually the queen of special effects and over-the-top short-films, but Katy may take the cake with her latest clip.
The video premiered today on MTV.com and shows Katy as “the titular alien: a swirling, shifting, otherworldly being who crashes to earth to resurrect a long-dormant love and, in the process, perhaps reboot the human race,” according to MTV.

Remember Katy Perry’s first video for “Ur So Gay”, with its DIY Barbie puppets and Flash-made cartoon backdrop? How far our girl has come since then! Katy’s Kanye West-featuring video for “E.T.” (watch it here!) is a beautifully shot, visually stunning big-budgeted slice of intergalactic sci-fi space glam.

As expected, a “real” video for Perry and West’s single “E.T.” has finally hit the ground running – from planet to planet.
A while back a video for the reworked track off Perry’s Teenage Dream was leaked online, basically full of lights and words (much like West’s non-epilepsy friendly intro to his “All Of the Lights” video). This time, however, West and Perry are in rare form and getting their intergalactic planetary on.
West isn’t doing much in the video, basically floating around space, while Perry dons make-up and prosthetics – representing something of a sexy cyborg from outer space.
Fans are responding well to this video, which dropped earlier today (March 31st) as Perry tweeted a countdown to the video starting yesterday (March 30th).
“Wow... that Katy Perry feat. Kanye West ‘E.T.’ vid is dope,” tweets @ crisc0. “Loooove this,” adds @Justin00009. The video has been retweeted several times and picked up by a variety of online outlets, such as celebrity blog Just Jared, as well as Hip-Hop blog Miss Info.
The video lives up to its extraterrestrial songtitle, as Perry falls for an alien (a naked one in fact). No, it’s not West either. He spends most of the video doing as we said. Floating.
The single itself is Number One on the charts, and Perry tweeted West her excited sentiments. “@kanyewest congrats friend, we did it! #sweet,” Katy tweeted to Kanye yesterday.
With the song already a hit, the video can only keep propelling it up the charts. In the meantime fans are happy that the two made an all out video as anticipated.
“Woah...This Katy Perry x Kanye West ET video is effin ILL,” says @sandmart444, “....like wowsas.”

It’s safe to say I was blown away by the "E.T." video. Between her stunning looks and the dramatic effects this may be one of the best videos I’ve seen. Katy Perry is beautiful and talented, and you can tell she takes her music seriously.
This is the fourth hit off Perry’s second album Teenage Dream. She made Billboard history this week, yielding four chart topping hits with "E.T.". Kanye West is featured on this track, and appears twice in the video.
Honestly, I had to watch the video twice. I was so confused and the scenes changed rapidly, from Perry floating through space to what looks like clips from a documentary. I watched with an open mind, then a second time to make sure I took everything in. I studied music most of my life, and it’s something I’m passionate about.
When I listen to a song or watch a video, especially for the first time, I give my undivided attention to the artist. I’ll take in the lyrics and dig for the true meaning, and if it’s a video, I try to envision myself in the same role, or at least something similar.
At first I hated Kanye’s second appearance. It seemed out of place, and the song didn’t flow, and it upset me that he ruined an almost perfect video. The second time, however, it was better. I couldn’t believe I dismissed it the first time. This goes to show even if you are thrown off by any of this video, give it another look and it will piece together.
I love the idea of using "E.T." because it is an original metaphor for love, not the typical boy-likes-girl songs we hear every day. She went above and beyond with the lyrics, which not everyone sees. The idea of space and aliens symbolizing love is new to us, so it seems a little strange. It may help watching a second time, like I had to, in order to have a better understanding.
Even if you’re not into deeper aspects of music, the video is worth a watch. Her elaborate dresses and makeup, and illusions of her floating and falling through space are entertaining and rather impressive.
The video will appear at 7:53pm tonight on MTV. It is already available online

Katy Perry's latest hit "E.T." – the Number One single on Billboard's Hot 100 chart this week – may be named after Steven Spielberg's adorable Eighties space alien, but its video has more to do with grim modern sci-fi. In fact, the clip looks as though it could be the trailer for either a sequel to Avatar or a Katy Perry video game. It's a bold move away from Perry's usual silliness and sexuality, but the song itself is too – it sounds more like Evanescence's hard rock balladry than her cheerful radio hits "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream."

Post-apocalyptic landscape, Kanye West floating in zero gravity, the kiss of a woman turning a robot into flesh-and-blood… it can only mean one thing: Katy Perry is officially in orbit for her “E.T.” music video.
This spacey, robotic jam might not have been an album highlight, but thanks to Kanye West’s verses concerning his commitment to alien sex, the song is currently a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as fodder for this awesomely bizzare sci-fi video, which impressively resists any obvious Spielberg references. Floating through space and looking like a cross between Queens Amidala and Of Sheba, Katy-alien descends to earth, where she suddenly sprouts spots that bring to mind Dax from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. (No, I’m not a geek).
What do you think of this video? Did surprise end reveal get you? (It did me: I always thought she waxed.) Or are you disappointed that at no point in this video did lasers shoot out of her breasts?

We've seen the promo pics. Now Katy Perry's music video for "E.T." has been released. She and Kanye take us to a whole new dimension up in this piece.
The voluptuous star floats in space in extravagant costumes, singing and romancing a Wall-E doppelganger and then some other alien guy. Pretty cool.
All the while, Kanye West raps about getting probed by aliens while floating in a really fancy space ship. Then Katy turns into a minotaur or something.
We're done trying to describe it.

In her latest video, for the Kanye West–enhanced "ET," Katy Perry has finally opted not to shoot anything out of her breasts. Instead, she bangs an alien. There have been images of Katy dressed up like an alien going around the Internet for weeks now, but whatever makeup artist got to paint her face should still be proud: Perry's rocking a number of genuinely detailed, outlandish, semi-gorgeous rainbow-kabuki looks. After floating around in outer space for the first few minutes of the song, Perry floats down to Earth, where she basically spots Wall-E with a glowing heart. She wipes off his visor, gives him a kiss, a light goes off, Kanye West floats around and raps for a bit ("What's next, alien sex / I'mma disrobe you / and then probe you"), and it turns out her robot alien is actually an albino African-American. Katy Perry says alien, we say albino African American; Katy Perry says tomato, we say an alliterative thing that sort of sounds like tomato, but is actually nothing like a tomato. Then it turns out that Perry totally doesn't have legs, she has gazelle hooves, because being an alien means being made up of the most graceful parts of Earth's mammals: We're surprised she didn't have a giraffe neck to go with those flanks.

Katy Perry's latest music video for "E.T." is here and if you were hoping for some steamy scenes to go along with those lyrics, we'll just tell you the theme leans a little -- or a lot -- more toward the "E.T." part.
Opening with Kanye West in a space ship (obviously), we then move on to a singing alien floating through space, who then morphs into Mrs. Russell Brand. Perry isn't just any extraterrestrial though. She rocks various alien fashions and makeup throughout the 5-minute video, including what appear to be deer legs.
It's kind of visually fascinating, entirely creepy and a far cry from "Teenage Dream." Watch the video below and let us know what you think. Is Perry still sexy in alien form?

Because in her new video for "E.T." — which premiered Thursday (March 31) on MTV.com — Perry plays the titular alien: a swirling, shifting, otherworldly being who crashes to earth to resurrect a long-dormant love and, in the process, perhaps reboot the human race (since, as is often the case with sci-fi exploits, planet Earth has undergone some sort of cataclysmic apocalypse and is now bereft of life). At least, I think that's the plot of the thing, though, really, it's not all that important if I'm wrong. Find out the full story tonight on "MTV First: Katy Perry's 'E.T.'," which bows on air at 7:53 p.m. ET before tossing to an MTV.com live stream, featuring MTV News correspondent Sway's exclusive chat with Perry, an interview with director Floria Sigismondi and reaction from Perry's fans.
"E.T." is a huge-looking, quick-moving blockbuster of a clip, overflowing with eye-catching special effects, opulent costumes and artfully applied makeup (and Kanye cameos), the kind of production where a plot is basically an afterthought. In other words, it's a Hollywood-level spectacle, a summer smash that just so happened to come out in the early days of spring. It's an event.
And really, with each #1 single she notches, it's the kind of clip Katy Perry has earned, one that puts her on par with other pop megastars like Britney and Gaga in the sheer scope of the production.
Working with acclaimed director Floria Sigismondi, Perry has created a video that certainly ranks among her very best and is unquestionably the biggest thing she's ever done, a production preceded by glossy teaser clips and online "abductions." The mind boggles at the cost of the wardrobe and hair extensions alone.
But, much like the plot, none of that really matters. "E.T." is less about the insignificant details and more about the larger picture — a video that not only moves Perry to the upper echelon, but looks and sounds great. It's a widescreen, THX-ian type of thing, meant to be marveled at. Whether or not you do, you can't deny that KP has earned the right to make it. She's finally arrived: fallen from the heavens to take her rightful place among the elite. Welcome our new alien overlord.

I don't understand how floating in space for 3 minutes makes room for epicness, but I still enjoyed this video. The aliens in this video sure did look better than Gaga aliens, but I think Gaga was more hybrid? I don't know. I loved the effects in make-up and visuals in E.T. but that's about it. I don't think it is a 'masterpiece,' but I think because people don't see this type of video from Katy often it will get more praise..
