I feel like all urban and edm hits these days are just cute little bops that are totally devoid of any strong emotion. Almost like there's a distinct disconnect because people are too afraid to invest too much energy and emotion in their music.
Even the generic electropop hits of the TD/Loud eras had huge, driving choruses celebrating emotions on an all-out, extreme spectrum. Love, loss, whatever.
Nowadays smashes are just... eh. Just minimal production with repetitive, fluffy melodies that all sound disposable. And very superficial lyrical content.
